Thankful Thursday

Rain is grace; rain in the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life------John Updike, an American Writer of novels, poems, short stories, literature.

Thankful Thursday

Light rain continues to grace Flower Mound and much of North Texas. I nearly forgot I planted some lilies last year. Liz and Bill Spear will probably get a kick out of what happened yesterday morning. In between the rain and the sunshine, I thought I saw a monstrous bee through my kitchen window! I grabbed my camera and cautiously walked towards whatever landed. What a surprise it was to see this beautiful lily!

It’s funny how quiet things are when it rains lightly and there is no thunder. Only thoughts were pounding in my head. All life depends on raindrops, both gentle and heavy. The rain precipitates changes in plants and people's attitudes. When there are too many clouds, it clouds our vision. This most unusual color with the deep yellow center had me mesmerized! I love to attract bees but seeing a lily this big and beautiful brought a smile that lasted throughout the day.

Today There Are Three Including Buds

Something I observed over time is that when it rains in abundance, people have a strange way of withdrawing inward. It is as if taking shelter is very important. Or perhaps raindrops trigger sorrow. In nature, plants thrive! I am glad they are alive!!! If we don't get outside during the rain, we miss a lot of surprising opportunities. Even a short walk in the morning rain feels like cleansing. Last night was the full strawberry moon. It was too cloudy to see it last night. Yet I can't deny that in between the rain, sun, moon, and stars there is divine intervention of grace that continues as a blessing. Today is not just another Thankful Thursday, it is a day I am reminded of my core values, one of which is gratitude.

Our summer showers come fast, with lots of wind and thunder. There is noise, torrential rains, and then it is over. I miss the days of soft rains that soaked into the ground instead of flowing downstream to the rivers.

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 - I wish you soft drizzly rain, sunshine, and just enough wind to keep your hair from blowing on your face. May you have pleasant summer weather.

Those are the most amazing and beautiful lilies. Having a dog gets me out in all weather, sometimes I am not so happy about that, other times I love it.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - I love dogs. However, with dog ownership, comes big responsibilities. Until I moved to Texas, I always had dogs and other pets. Keeping a dog groomed, up to date on shots, and paying for unexpected veterinarian bills was just too much for me to handle. Cold, blustery days, freezing rain and strong winds in Chicago was very hard and challenging for me. Here in TX, the weather is too hot and comes with other challenges.

I do understand where you're coming from.

Good morning Patricia. Somewhere above the cloud cover that has blanketed Chicago lately is a blue sky and sunshine. May we see it soon? As for you Lily, is a a true work of nature's art. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin - where there is a patch or more of blue sky and sunshine, there is always hope. I wish you good weather.

I really liked what you said about my Lily plant. Nature's art can never be duplicated. Its beauty is always welcoming!

Good morning, Patricia. Those lily photos are marvelous. I thought I heard that there was flooding around the Dallas area... hopefully it's not affecting you.

Nina Hollander, Broker - you heard right about flash flooding in the Dallas area. Thankfully, Flower Mound is far enough away. So far, I haven't been impacted by flooding.

Oh, you can't believe how happy that Lily plant made me feel! The color is so deep and bold. Mother Nature chose to add yellow on the inside which is stunning! It almost looks like a royal color of velvet.

Thank you, George Souto. Scattered raindrops add to its beauty!  I remain grateful for the flowers I plant that grow in my garden.

GilbertRealtor BillSalvatore - that's wonderful news! I did not know you liked planting in your garden. Actually, I can't even imagine anything other than cactus flower plants. Perhaps you'll write about what is growing in your garden. I would love to read about it.

Hi Patricia- I love your photos. For the first time in ages, Larry and I didn't walk this morning. It was not just the rain but the lightning that stopped us.

Hi Kathy Streib - Walking in the rain when there is lightning is never a good idea. A few days ago, when we had a terrific lightening show and the sound of sonic booms, I chose to stay under the covers. My daughter called me. When I answered, she said, were you sleeping? I told her no, just hiding under the covers from the lightening. She said, good! She would have done the same thing.

Hello Patricia - rain, especially when it is light, can touch us in almost magical ways.  In our thought process as well as in sensory ways we might not ordinarily imagine.  It can be much different than a downpour or something more severe.

Michael Jacobs - Sensory awareness when it drizzles can be magical! The light touch of raindrops on human skin, drops of rain on top the fur of a dog, or what looks like tear drops on pedals can evoke emotion. In contrast, when it pours outdoors, it can be overwhelming.
