JUNE IS NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH 🏡🗝️
REASON #6 TO OWN A HOME, NOT RENT
YOU, NOT YOUR LANDLORD, DECIDE HOW TO DECORATE YOUR HOME
When you rent a home, it's your landlord—not you—who decides how it can be decorated. So while it might feel like your "castle," a rented home rarely allows for the personal touches that truly make a space your own. Most rental or lease agreements strictly limit what changes you can make—if any—without prior written permission from the landlord. And even if you're granted permission, it's often with the condition that you restore everything to its original state before moving out—at your own expense. Make unauthorized changes, and you could even risk eviction.
From a landlord’s perspective, this restriction makes sense. Tenant-made changes could reduce the property's value or create zoning or code violations that cost money to fix.
Even if your improvements would add value, ask yourself this: why invest your own time, money, and energy into upgrading a property you don’t own and won’t benefit from in the long term? Most landlords won’t reimburse you for improvements—even though they’ll benefit from them after you leave.
So, if you’re eager to express your inner interior designer and truly make a space your own, owning your home—not renting—is the way to go!
