This Week…Celebrating Fathers, The Army, and Our Flag
With everything going on in the world, let’s pause, take a breath, and celebrate. Today we celebrate our flag, Ole Glory, and we wish Happy Birthday to the United States Army. And let's not forget Sunday...the day we honor our Fathers.
Our Fathers or the father-figures in our lives are Superman, Archie Bunker, and Ward Cleaver rolled into one. We know we can go to them and they will make it all right again.
Our United States Army is celebrating its 250th birthday. You and I are free to go about our lives…to enjoy our families…and to think about a future because of the men and women who serve in the US Army and, of course, the other branches of the military.
And, finally, today is Flag Day. In 1777, the United States flag of 13 stripes…red and white, and 13 white stars on a field of blue was adopted.
… but when we look at our flag and behold it emblazoned with all our rights we must remember that it is equally a symbol of our duties. Every glory that we associate with it is the result of duty done.
Calvin Coolidge
Thanks to Mark Don McInnes and Ed Silva we are reminded of the beauty of our flag every week. I know that thanks to their posts, I take notice of the many businesses and private residences in my area that proudly fly our flag.
One flag, one land,
One heart, one hand
One nation evermore!
Oliver Wendell Holmes
Happy Father’s Day to the many fathers and father-figures!
The key to being a good dad ... well sometimes things work out just the way you want. Sometimes they don't. But you gotta hang in there, because when all is said and done, 90 percent of being a dad is just showing up.
