It's The Whole Package

I can't say that I was like Joe, a kid who liked jumping into puddles. If I did it probably would have given my mother a breakdown as she was an extreme "neatnic".

As far as the guinea pigs response, I'd suggest it is not either one or the other but the entire experience as a whole package.

The product above is beautifully packaged and I'm sure that the way it is packaged brings about an air of excitement and anticipation that actually makes the contents taste better then it would if three little jars and a pack of crackers were thrown into a brown paper bag.

How does this apply to Real Estate?

The first thing that came to mind is a Real Estate agent who demonstrates care and compassion for/about their client AND is hard working to see that every step of the home buying/selling experience goes smoothly right on through the closing. I feel I have to say that before you "sell" a client you need to "sell" yourself. You need to get the client excited about you working for them and then of course you need to demonstrate that you are working for them (not how blessed they are to be in your presence).

The next thing to come to my mind is home staging. Staging is nothing new to us who blog on Active Rain. If you are representing a Seller it is your duty to present your clients home in the best possible light... it's part of the package. Just like the jelly and crackers above, the presentation of the home brings excitement and anticipation to potential buyers.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Hi Bob,
I used to like breaking the ice in the puddles as I walked to school. I might still like doing that, but everything is paved now.

I loved that too Carol Williams and confess that I still do it when possible.

Carol Williams , I just ran across this picture quite by chance a few minutes ago. I think I took it in January at the foot of my driveway.

Carol Williams and Bob "RealMan" Timm - I still crack all the ice in puddles. I love the crunch crunch. I'm a big kid and I admit it!

Cute comic strip!!  And oh we loved to jump in all the puddles. I can still hear my Mom saying - take your shoes off now as we entered the mud room!   And you're spot on about real estate  - people want to know, like and trust you before they'll work with you!  As for staging - I've been staging my entire career. But then again I was in design before becoming and agent so it was easy for me and I understood the importance of staging.

Thank you Anna "Banana" Kruchten . I did not know that you had been staging since you began RE. As far as mud rooms I had forgot all about them BUT now I remember some pretty fabulous ones.

Bob I was in the design business and it was something I had been doing - designing living spaces for several years in the country club area - perfect match for me!

Thanks for sharing this thoughtful post, Bob "RealMan" Timm. I really appreciate your perspective on how presentation and genuine care make all the difference in real estate. Your analogy of packaging and staging hits home — it’s all about creating that sense of excitement and trust. 😊

Hello Bob "RealMan" Timm

Bean bags? My sister was a neatnic with her daughter. Always had to be pristine clean. We always told her it was a child, not a doll. Our oldest would watch her from time to time, and he'd say to her, "Let's go out and stomp ants"...lol You can only imagine how horrified my sister was when she saw her daughter's feet covered in dirt and ant bodies... Guess he didn't know about staging...lol

That is a fun story Doug Dawes . As far as the bean bags go Carol usually uses rice but she says corn and/or flax also works well. You just heat them up for about 2 minutes in the microwave and it feels great in cold hands for about a half hour.

Hello Bob - I don't recall enjoying in puddles.   Looking at the bigger picture might provide a better grasp on a situation.  Perspective and perception play parts enhancing that package.

I'm sure you and I had both played in a puddle once Michael Jacobs but our mothers made sure we didn't enjoy it enough to ever do it again. 😊

An excellent analogy, Bob. Packing does sell... and especially in real estate. As our friend Barbara Todaro was fond of saying "the eye buys."

Presentation does make a difference! As for jumping in puddles, yes indeed - that happened!

Real Estate agents need to present homes in a positive light Kat Palmiotti while avoiding unreal expectations. Early on in my career I may have shown homes with a bit of prejudice and that certainly was not right. What we like or dislike in a home should not taint our presentation of a home that a client has requested to see.
