If I could Cash In

I'd like to say "Easy Come - Easy Go" but those points did not come easy. The fact is I still work hard on collecting them every day.

While it would be totally fun to spend them on myself I'm going to spend them on something a little more noble than myself.

I don't know what it costs but being this is fantasy anyway I'd like to spend my points to purchase addiction counseling for someone/anyone I've helped through my jail ministry. Since I created "The Noodle Ministry" in 2019 my eyes have been opened to the large number of people who have become dependant on drugs even in a community as small as Minot ND.

If my points could free one person from drug addiction it would be well worth it.

The Noodle Ministry came about due to my friendship with a tiny little gal who would drop off her son at Headstart when I was also dropping off Timmothy. She was the sweetest little thing so imagine my shock years later when the Newspaper front page article was this:

The whole story was she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon (as she was robbing a drug dealer of thousands of dollars). Assaulting a police officer, and more. Little 4'10 Heather, mother of two young boys.

This is a pretty lengthy story but to cut it short: I bailed her out of jail and reunited her with her boys and her parents. She dumped her druggie husband, went on the straight and narrow, and went to college to become a drug addiction counselor.

Heather, the college Graduate.

Today Heather is a drug addiction counselor in Minot. When those seeking help come to Heather she can tell them first hand that "it can be done"! Her story is one of few success stories out there. I'd love to be part of another success story and if my points could do it I'd gladly give them up to save another life.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Hi Bob,
There is definitely a drug addiction crisis in this country, and not enough funding is available to adequately address it.

Good heavens, this had me tearing up.  Look what your act of kindness accomplished!

God Bless YOU and all that you do to help others.

Thank you Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist . I am so glad Heathers kindness many years back in those days I took Timmothy to Head Start made me take notice when she went bad. Had I not know what a sweet girl she was I would NOT have noticed or cared about her when that news article broke. She just would have been another druggie to me. Because of her kindness prior to turning bad I got involved in a way to help others.

That's a great idea of how to use your points - even helping one more person would be worth all those points.

Good Evening Bob "RealMan" Timm

You know, we don't know God's plans for us. This young woman made unfortunate decisions and wound up in a bad way, yet God arranged for you to be in her path, and look what has happened. To God be the Glory. It will be interesting to learn the back story of lives we have encountered.

Agreed Doug Dawes , to God be the glory. Heather is the success story I know about... I hope there are many more even if I don't know about them. That being said I do receive a lot of Thank You cards.

Bob- I've mentioned your Noodle Ministry to my friend who did prison ministry here in Texas to inmates on death row. Thank you for showing compassion to Heather, and kudos to Heather for turning her life around and then giving back to others.

Drugs have robbed so many people of their lives. They hurt themselves, their families and often others.

Kathy Streib my brother Rick, 2 years older than I, died from addiction. So many people enabled him including our parents. Intervention, including prison, never deterred him from his own self destruction. It was sad as Rick had a genius mind and could have had a very positive influence on mankind.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - you have a self-servant heart. Implementing the Noodle Ministry for addicts in Minot was a benevolent act of courage. Heather's Story would make a great documentary, especially before the holidays. That's when many people have a depressing time and could use help.

In the 1980s I worked for Head Start and Special Education for Lake County, IL. Many children had parents who were drug addicts and what I experienced first-hand between the children and some of their parent's stories broke my heart.

Watching, listening, seeing, and trying to help children who have a mother who is a drug addict was extremely painful. The stories I could tell could rip anyone's heart to shreds. When a child is born with fetal alcohol/drug syndromes' it becomes a social problem for the child and the community. What I experienced is the vast number of mothers who are drug addicts.

These problems don't just go away. They never went away, and memories stay locked up in our minds of people we know who are or were addicted to drugs and alcohol. The first time I heard about this was when I was in about 6th grade. There were two young boys who lived across the street, Scotty and Timothy. Their mother was an alcoholic and committed suicide.

As I got older, I learned people my age and other people of all ages, had problems with drugs and alcohol. It is a terrible disease with horrible consequences if they don't get help.

Bob, I commend you for not looking the other way. What you've done to help Heather is something her family and friends appreciated. It took courage. I am sure there are many people very grateful for the "Noodle Ministry." Stories like Heather's are too numerous to count and share with everyone but just reading and learning about how she was able to turn her life around is a miracle.

Thank you, Bob. And may all the people you helped, including you and your family be blessed.

Thank you Patricia Feager for your wonderful addition to this story. I feel for both the addict and their families as well. A child of a drug addict has a lot to overcome to be a well adjusted person in the world today.

Bob "RealMan" Timm  When you make a difference in someone's life like this you are a true hero. Lots of people want to help, but you did more than help, You saved her life. And now she is helping other people. Pretty amazing!

Thank you for sharing this beautiful success story!

Heathers efforts to restore her life made all the difference Debra Leisek and I just hope that she is not the only one who "takes to" a kind act shown to her. I think a lot of addicts are just trying to fill that need for love with the feeling they get from a high.

You are a very special person Bob "RealMan" Timm You gave her what she needed to change her life for the better. And she did find the strength to do what she needed to do..,  There are not a lot of people who would have done what you did by bailing her out of Jail, getting her family back and giving her hope and a path forward.

I think you are one in a million!

Thank you Wayne L. Brown but just to be clear I was a only a tool in God's hand at that time and place. It would be great if I could be used by Him every day. The Noodle Ministry continues to be the most popular jail ministry at the Ward County Jail as the indigent prisoners are very appreciative of it. I hope it touches their lives even if I never know about it.

Hi Bob! Thank you for this beautiful post. As a mother who has walked through addiction with a grown child, this hits home. We never give up on them.

Dr. Paula McDonald I had a brother who was chemically dependent until his death. Must relatives were enablers, giving Rick money to get food or pay rent, totally blind of the fact that it would go to support his habits. Money is NEVER the solution to help an addict! Christ is the only solution to fixing a broken person.

What a story and history Heather has. I am glad to see she was able to get a bit of reprieve from the court, and had the level head to turn her life around after getting away from Jarrod. I am sure she is proud, as are you and her family. This is something she can always tell her kids about to help them through the tough times.
