🧭 Feng Shui & the Front Door: What Pasadena Condo Sellers Should Know

If you're planning to sell a Pasadena condo, it's important to think beyond square footage and curb appeal. In communities with strong Asian and Taiwanese cultural influences, Feng Shui can be a big factor in how buyers feel about your home—and whether they make an offer.

In our latest blog post at Pasadena Condos by The Paul Kaplan Group, we explore one of the most critical elements in Feng Shui: the front door. Known as the “mouth of qi,” the front door is considered the main energy gateway into a home.

Even if you’re not a Feng Shui follower yourself, making small changes to your condo’s entryway can dramatically improve how it feels to potential buyers—especially those sensitive to energy flow, layout, and symbolism.

🔑 Key Takeaways:

  • Direction matters: South-facing doors are considered lucky, while north- and west-facing doors may need balancing through color, plants, or lighting.

  • Avoid common Feng Shui red flags, like stairs pointing directly at the front door or mirrors facing the entry.

  • Simple fixes—like adding greenery, using warm lighting, or applying color theory based on the door’s direction—can create a more welcoming and harmonious vibe.

  • Buyers may pay more for homes that “feel right,” especially in a market that values Feng Shui.

✅ We’ve also included a practical checklist to help condo sellers prep their entryway with Feng Shui in mind.

âś… Feng Shui Front Door Checklist

Here’s a quick-reference checklist to improve Feng Shui at your condo’s entrance:

Feng Shui Front Door Checklist for Pasadena Condos

  • Door opens easily without obstruction

  • Entry is clean, well-lit, and inviting

  • No clutter or storage near the door

  • Mirror is not directly across from front door

  • No staircase pointing directly at the door

  • Soft lighting or plants enhance the walkway

  • Colors near door reflect supportive elements (red for south, blue for north, green for east, etc.)

  • Door numbers are clear and avoid "unlucky" digits like 4 (if possible)

  • Doormat is fresh, clean, and positive in design

  • Energy feels calm and balanced when standing at the threshold

My office address is all lucky: prime number, made up of prime numbers. 317 has brought me good luck.

Good evening Paul,

What a great post! I have taken Feng Shui classes as it's very real with any of our Austin buyers! A staircase coming down directly at the front door is a huge no-no! I have found out you can place crystals on the wall facing the stairs and the chi should bounce back rather than going out the door!

Great information. Years ago, when my husband was building homes in this area, he often asked the architect to modify the plans so that the staircase wouldn't face the front door.
