This month ActiveRain is hosting a challenge - ActiveRain Point Store - Points, Points, Points. Our challenge, should we choose to accept it, is to spend our points (1,000,000 points = $100,000) on any goals we want. We can spend them on the community, hobbies, retirement, personal, familial, altruistic goals or anything else that comes to mind. So here is my final option to how I might spend mine!
At the time I am writing this, I have about 2,675,000 points. As I mentioned with my first entry, I'm going to keep 500,000 so my ActiveRain account remains free. So that leaves me with 2,175,000. With my first option, I explored spending the entire $217,500 on a camper van. The second time, the money went towards free groceries for my community. The third time, my points went for a memorable family vacation.
This time I'm sharing my option D, where I give my 2,175,000 points to other ActiveRainers who have amazing ways to use their points.
There have been many interesting entries, and I'm sure many more will come in the following week - I could just split the money among all post writers this month or as Wayne Martin said, perhaps a committee could be put in place to allocate the funds. But since we don't have such a committee, and since I don't know how many people there are to give our points to, I have decided to give my points as follows:
500,000 points to Patricia Feager, to help fund her Nursery Gardens. She's going to buy established nursery gardens on 50 acres of land. She will live in a 2700 square foot home with canaries and a piano in the back of the store.
She plans to rent out a building to artists to display and sell their art, as well as to teach classes. Another building will include guest rooms for College Interns as well as a Glassblowing Workshop. Funding such a dream sounds like a great use of points.
Then I will give 675,000 points to Nick Vandekar and his charity of choice, World Central Kitchen. Watching the video inserted in his blog post, what struck me was their motto of providing help "as quick as you can," and "Now!" It doesn't matter if you don't have enough forks and knives or plates or rolls. GO help where it's needed. Everyone needs food and water. So how can I not assist as well?
500,000 points to Jeff Masich to help in his search for love. If you haven't read his post, go see. Maybe you can buy love!? If yes, I'm helping!
And finally, I'm giving the rest of my points (500,000) to DaCyn Walsh , a relatively new ActiveRainer who has jumped into the site with both feet, attending Zoom calls, commenting, responding and writing quality posts. Not only that, she's energetic, enthusiastic and smiles all the time! DaCyn doesn't have enough points to buy anything at all, but I noticed several ActiveRainers were dedicating their points to her, so I will do so also. She will now have enough to join in purchasing of a dream.
And there you have it, my four options for the June ActiveRain Points Store. A was a camper van. B was a grocery store giveaway. C was a family trip and D was giving my points to ActiveRainers. If I had to pick just one option, I'd have a very hard time doing so. So since the points are imaginary, I'm going to leave it at that and not choose any one of them.
And how did you spend your points?
