Is Your Home Office Due For A Make-Over?

By
Industry Observer 0506509

Real Estate Agents are great at telling their clients to declutter their homes. The question is, how often do you clean and declutter your own personal office? Are you due for a Home Office Make-Over? Re-evaluate your organizational skills. If you don't need something, get rid of it. If you are running low on supplies, do you have enough stored to get by until you shop again? Ask yourself, what steps do you need to do to become more efficient? If you find yourself sneezing more than usual, perhaps you need deep cleaning, or your air filters changed.

What Happens When You Are Rushing?

  • Your heart starts beating faster.
  • Your brain may be on overload.
  • You can easily forget minor or major things.
  • You may trip and fall.
  • You may forget something important.
  • You can't find what you're looking for.
  • You may have misplaced things.
  • You most likely will make someone mad or angry.
  • Responsibilities become a heavy load.
  • Time is not on your side.

Is Your Workspace safe?

When you are rushing around to get things done, or to beat the clock, accidents are more likely to happen. Tripping and falling when it's your own fault sucks. For example, my sister recently had so much to do she forgot to move her shoes before going to bed. The next day she tripped and fell on her own shoes. Subsequently, she spent several months in the hospital, in a nursing home, and going through rehab. She broke her femur bone and right arm in more than one place. Living independently isn't fun when you are in need of help.

Only You Can Prevent Stupidity

How Does Your Life Change from Being Independent to Needing Help?

  • Things you take for granted comes back to haunt you.
  • Brushing teeth.
  • Using the bathroom.
  • Showering/Bathing
  • Meals.
  • Doing routines.
  • Dressing.
  • Picking up something off the floor.
  • Letting out the dog.
  • Feeding pets.
  • Changing the room temperatures.
  • Cleaning the house.
  • Doing dishes.
  • Getting the mail.
  • Buying food and essential necessities.
  • Schedules, appointments, and cancellations.

Going From Chronically in a Hurry to Being Out of Commission

  • Being independent is a good feeling.
  • Having to depend on others sucks.
  • Things you normally do is almost impossible.
  • Having to make life changes sucks.
  • Heart rate and attitude change drastically.
  • High stress, low stress - all stress sucks.
  • Picking up a pen or something off the floor is strenuous.
  • Achieving is great - Not achieving or being Incapacitated sucks.

The stress you caused yourself sucks the most

Hello Patricia - clutter can be quite powerful. Although its strength may not be immediately apparent.  It can create chaos in conspicuous as well as subtle ways.

Organization of our home environment which often does double (or more) duty as multitasking becomes a part of life.  Yikes, that it seems to have the ability to take over countless aspects of everyday life.

Hello, Michael Jacobs

No matter how hard we try to keep up, keeping up is hard to do. Today, many homes serve multiple purposes. Out of disorder comes chaos. Staying on top of being organized is an art and a skill. No matter how well we think we stay organized, clutter has a way of creeping into our lives.

When I take the time to declutter and organize, positive outcomes seem to follow. Henry's learned that when I start rearranging furniture and boxing up files, it means we're gearing up for a productive stretch. I've emphasized the importance of digitizing last year's files while things are quieter, relocating the paper copies to our filing room. Exciting developments are on the horizon!

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 - Taking the time to declutter takes careful thinking. It involves physical, emotional, and financial decision making.

I really like how you noticed that what you set out to do results in positive outcomes! Henry knows! People notice positive change. They don't have to be watching you. Your whole persona changes for the better. It is so much easier to reach for something and get what you want than panic and wonder whether or not you have what you need.

Best wishes to you for exciting new developments that are "on the horizon!" I like your attitude, Glen.

Thanks Patricia, great tips!!! I can use some of them myself.

Sham Reddy CRS - thanks for noticing something good about what I wrote today. Sometimes it is easier to notice what others need to do, than what we need to do for ourselves.

Whatever we preach, we need to practice

Hello Patricia and I like to think my office is square away but sometimes I let a couple of things go and need to work more on it.

Patricia, my office WOULD NEVER look like that, as I couldn't even get started in the morning with my OCD.

You're not alone Joan Cox! However, I do think some agents work best in the mess (or at least they think so).

In all seriousness, so many agents have been running so fast ,for so long, it's probably a good idea to stop. Take a look around. Declutter.
