This Week…Time Out in Nature
This weekend we’re celebrating The Great American Campout. It’s part of the National Wildlife Federation’s effort to encourage us to get outside and commune with nature.

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.
John Muir
I spent many years as a Brownie and Girl Scout, and through scouting, I had more than my share of camping trips/adventures.
There was the trip that featured 5 or 6 snakes (I lost count.) Imagine if you will, 2 dozen pre-teens screaming at the top of their lungs at the sight of a snake. I came this close to kicking a copperhead
out of our tent while we rearranged the beds. I thought it was an electrical cord.

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Or the same pre-teens and their Scout leaders lost in the woods?! We had to cross a suspension bridge to get back to the main road. To be kind, one of our leaders was Mama Cass in size, so we politely asked her if she would wait to cross after we had crossed the bridge.
I’ve been camping with Larry. Once the skies opened up, just as we were setting up our tent. We spent an hour bailing out the water.

Study nature, love nature, stay close to nature. It will never fail you.
Frank Lloyd Wright
If I never go camping again, it will be fine with me. That said…I would not trade my experience being one with nature for anything.
If you have children, I would encourage you to give them the opportunity to go camping, even if just for a short weekend. Spend the night under the stars…wake up to birds singing (or pooping on your tent, which happened to us.)

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.
John Lubbock
Hope you have some fun Nature time this weekend.
