Have We Changed with Time?
The question was simple and yet maybe not so much.
A quick and simple answer would be, of course, I got older:
I have pains in areas I never had before
I can't do things as well as I once did
And of course there's that oldie but goodie: if I could change that.
Well, it is all a mute point, as no one can go back with the eraser and fix a thing.

What reflection does offer is the obvious:
I learned to be more patient. It was a gradual transition brought on by the interactions we experienced while developed within a transaction.
When taking the classes that are necessary for becoming a licensed agent, we learn essentially the rules so we can keep the licenses. What we don't learn, and so many give little credence, to is the nature of customer engagement and how to manage emotions so that people can focus on what they have to do to complete their contracts.
My logical mind, engineers are trained to be this way, allowed me keep the eye on the prize, and keep everything moving forward. Patience was there but often not in the proper volume needed.
We get into a contract and as will happen, an issue develops, and the tendency would be to jump on it as all that is seen are the potential dollars to be added to the transaction or taken away.
Experience allows one to take that breath, read the details and hopefully manage the issue with minimum negativity on the part of either side.
Did I have the same degree of patience before I started in real estate? Most likely a great deal of it was there as I had a lot of interaction with clients in my previous career, not to mention all the issues one can encounter when traveling frequently on business. Can one say airport delay?
The one constant is patience is within us but needs to be brought out in a manner that doesn't offend and also gives the people with whom we interact the confidence needed to get their part of a contract completed.
