Let’s Make Our Smart Devices Smarter

By

The other day Michelle said why don’t we work on our smart devices and get everything connected.  I said that would be a great idea for YOU to do, but I have a busy day so if you are going to do this please limit the times you need my help.  She agreed and went to work, first up the Bosch refrigerator, she downloaded the app, paired the refrigerator, and shared with me.  Now I am alerted when the door is open too long and can turn the ice maker off and on plus other features, cool.

Next the Hunter/Hydrawise irrigation system, she figured out how to pair it with the app and shared with me.  We set up our zones, days, how long to water and turned on some features like when it rains or has rained.  Some of the features are water longer when hot, don’t water when there is an 80% chance of rain, if 0.1” of rain fell the day before don’t water and if 1.5” of rain fell the past 3 days don’t water.  From my phone I can run a single zone if needed, test the zones, and change what I want to change, cool.

She wasn’t done next was 3 cameras, doorbell, thermostat, carbon monoxide/smoke detector and WIFI mesh system.  That’s the article for tomorrow!

Hello Dick - once again, sometimes life seems simply too complicated.

I agree with Michael Jacobs. This sounds wonderful, but way too sophisticated for me. Fortunately ( ha ha) we are having so much rain here in Maryland this summer that I don’t need a water system. Please tell your wife that she is very impressive and way out of our class!

I would like a system for the garden and greenhouse where I could monitor temperature and water as appropriate. That would make going out of town a lot easier. I'll have to look into it!

Good morning Dick,

Glad Michelle can get this set up but I have to admit I don't need or want that! I think she is wonderful and I'm impressed!

Hi Dick- I am an admitted gadget-techie person.  We have some of our lamps on smart plugs which are set to turn off and on at varied times. If we want we can turn them off or on when we're away from home.
