In the grand scheme of selling a home, it is the front of the house that first whispers (or shouts) to a would-be buyer: Come in. You might belong here.
Before a home hits the market, it’s worth taking a moment to stand on the sidewalk, and give the property a true once-over. Look not as an owner, but as a curious stranger. What do you notice first? Is the lawn clipped neat? Are the hedges overgrown and disheveled? Are the shutters straight, the mailbox upright and friendly, the house numbers clear as a clever turn of phrase?
A tidy walkway with no weeds poking up like mischievous children says, “I’ve been cared for.” A fresh coat of paint on the front door. Even the hardware matters: a wobbly door handle or an old lock that gets stuck suggests to Buyers that this home may not be for them. And light on the porch or along the front of the home can turn away the night and make the property feel more inviting.
