One of the most important things when preparing a home to greet its next owner, is helping prospective Buyers envision their life in the space. That’s where decluttering and depersonalizing come in. You, as a Seller, have to be ready to let go.
Decluttering is clearing the space - getting rid of things you no longer use, papers we don’t need, and knickknacks that have forgotten their purpose (other than making it hard to find a place to set down a cup of coffee). Removing the excess allows the rooms to breathe and feel spacious for the new prospective owner so they can find the space for the things that they love and cherish.
Depersonalizing is gentler work but can be more emotional. It means putting away family photos, trophies, and things that shout, “This is my house!” That way, visitors can pretend it’s their house—and that pretending helps them fall in love.
Just like a fresh page in a book invites a new story - make the space ready for the Buyer's new adventure.
