This is what happens when the walnuts begin to ripen
and it is a very hot and humid day.

Unless you love feeding them, that is a sad sight to me.  They eat the pecan crop before it is ripe.  Eating away the green shells, one bite here, another there.  I hate them.

Gloria, your "Prone Eating" post perfectly captures the summer struggle with ripening walnuts and ambitious squirrels! It's a relatable sight for many, especially on those hot, humid days when every creature seeks comfort while feasting. Thanks for sharing this charming glimpse into nature's seasonal routines. It's a fun reminder of local wildlife!

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 I can understand your point of view, if my crop was being destroyed.

For me I post such things because I do enjoy squirrels.  I squirrel proofed my bird feeders and there might be a few other critters in our neighborhood that will eat these walnuts. Sorry my post caused such a strong bad reaction for you. Take care.

Dennis Neal I see the squirrels often during our many heat waves of late prone on a fence, even in the grass.  I have a bird feeder and I keep that refreshed because many birds have been taking baths lately.  I imagine your area has it's issues also.  Local wildlife do have their challenges when weather is extreme.

Gloria, you got a really good shot of this squirrel eating a green walnut.  My kitties would be excited to see him/her.
