This Week…Friends, Old and New
When I was shopping this week at H-E-B (our Texas-sized grocery store chain), I met a new friend while perusing the cleaning supplies aisle. After offering to help her, we had an informative conversation about a hack for Dawn Dish soap. (I’m not kidding!)

There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven't yet met.
William Butler Yeats
As it turns out, we’d “met” a few months earlier in the produce department. I learned that she is 63 and getting her Master's in Communication.
In my post this week, I said that one of my favorite Texas traits is that when you meet someone, they’ll speak to you as if they’ve known you all their lives. Such was the case here.

The only way to have a friend is to be one.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
As we age, we tend to have fewer real friends and more acquaintances. It’s logical when you think about it. Our opportunities to socialize are fewer…no school or workplace friendships, for example.

A friend may be waiting behind a stranger's face,
Maya Angelou.
We become more selective with our time…choosing to be with friends we enjoy! Some of our friends we’ve known for over 45 years, and still love being with them.
It’s important for us, as we age, to find ways to maintain the friendships we have as well as meet new friends…or at least new acquaintances.

Do something every day to interact with others. Make it a point to have coffee or a meal with your friends.
A real friend is one who walks in when the rest of the world walks out.
Walter Winchell
Have a wonderful weekend!
