Wall-to-Wall Carpeting Isn’t in Style and Why Wall-to-Wall Carpet Turns Off Today’s Buyers
Wall-to-wall carpet used to be in every room. It was soft, warm, and cozy. But now, most homebuyers want hardwood, tile, or vinyl floors.
Why? First, carpet is hard to clean. It holds dust, pet hair, stains, and smells. People with allergies especially don’t want carpet.
Second, carpets show wear and tear. Even if you’ve cleaned it, buyers still wonder what’s hidden deep down. They may plan to rip it out right away.
Hardwood or tile is easier to keep clean and looks more modern. Many buyers are even okay with fake wood (like luxury vinyl plank) as long as it looks sharp.
Some buyers are okay with carpet in the bedrooms. But even then, they prefer it to be new, neutral-colored, and spotless.
If you’re selling and have older or stained carpet, it may be worth it to replace it or offer a flooring credit. A new floor can make the whole home feel new.
Buyers want a move-in ready home—not a flooring project.
So if your house is covered in carpet, think about making a change. It could make a big difference in how fast your home sells—and for how much.
Best, Heath
