“Trust is the quiet foundation of every transaction.”
In my years as a real estate broker, I’ve had the privilege of being part of many transactions, some large, some small, and a few that touched my heart in ways no commission ever could.
One of those was with a dear golfing friend. She was a member of our ladies' golf league... a kind, sweet soul who everyone loved, on and off the course. I knew she had been diagnosed with a terminal illness, but she was handling it with grace.
One day, she invited me to her home to meet with her and her family. I had no idea what to expect. We sat at the dining table of her well-kept double-wide mobile home. It wasn't fancy, but it was clearly a place she took great pride in.
The meeting was short. With her children and me at the table, she introduced me and simply said, “I want Carol to sell my home after I pass.”
That was it. Just that one sentence. But it meant the world to me.
Her family didn’t hesitate. They were fully on board, and after she passed, we honored her wishes and listed the home. There were no special challenges, no dramatic twists, just a straightforward sale of a modest property on leased land.
But for me, it was one of the most meaningful transactions of my career.
She never saw the “For Sale” sign go up. That was part of the plan. But I felt her presence in every step of the process. It wasn’t a big sale. The commission was small. But the emotional return was immeasurable.
This experience reminds me that the smallest transactions can carry the biggest return. If you ask me what success in real estate is, I would say it’s not in the dollar amount, but opportunities like this. When someone chooses you to handle something that matters deeply to them, it’s not about the home. It’s about trust.
And that’s priceless.
