A Matter of Survival
Stepping outside to stroll through Nerdin Gardens, I heard a hawk’s shrill distress call and quickly looked up. Well, lo and behold, a flock of smaller birds were risking their lives by dive bombing the predator, mid-air.
Apparently, the hawk had attempted to rob a nest and through parental instinct, the flock was driving it away for the safety and survival of them all. Safety in numbers ensures survival of the next generation.
This strategy significantly reduces the risk to any one individual while maximizing the chance of success for all. As a unified group, they were sending a clear message that this area was claimed and protected.
Which brings me to this point: Many real estate professionals lack the insight to protect their own business from negative infuences. Despite any success, opportunists are always nearby, ready to take advantage.
To offset that, industry people can:
Follow the Code of Ethics. This is one of the best defenses that sets a high standard on how to treat clients and other real estate professionals. By upholding these guidelines, you then create a good reputation.
Get everything in writing. This includes offers, counter-offers, terms, conditions, deadlines. Comprehensive documentation is the primary defense against accusations of misrepresentation or other vocal claims.
Educate Buyers and Sellers. An informed client fully understands how to proceed during the buying or selling process, from start to finish. This includes agents behaviors, sets expectations and creates trust.
By consistently implementing those practices, a business remains ethical, predator-free, plus it empowers agent and client to know what to expect. In an everchanging market landscape, those remain unchallenged.
In the air or on the ground and all around.
