A Long Time Coming
The couple pulled into the lumberyard parking lot, the wife insisted on going in alone, so he instructed her on what to say and she went inside to purchase some items.
She said to the clerk, “We need some four-by-twos.”
He raised an eyebrow and asked. “You mean two-by-fours, right?”
The wife scratched her head. “Uh… let me check.”
She walked back to the truck, had a quick word with the husband, then returned. “Yep, two-by-fours.”
“Alright,” the clerk said. “How long do you need them?”
My wife frowned, thinking. After a long pause, she muttered, “Hmm… better check.”
She came up to the truck window, they discussed it, then she went back inside. With a confident nod to the employee, she announced, “A long time. We’re building a house.”
That's when the fight started in the parking lot!
