Sure, I will Mow My Own Lawn!

Back in October of 2011 I moved to The Villages, Florida and told Michelle I will mow the grass, no sense in paying somebody!  My plan worked great until about June then I started questioning my decision by August we hired somebody.  Growing up in Pennsylvania and living some in Maryland thought how hard can be to mow grass in Florida?  I never paid anybody to mow my lawn in the past why pay here!  Word of advice if moving here, hire somebody to mow your grass!

Something you need to know about lawn services in The Villages, most only do three things, cut, trim, and blow off the driveway and walks.  In many neighborhoods the guys show up unload the mower and do maybe half a block of homes.  My lawn guys were just here maybe 20 minutes to do three homes.  One rides the mower; another one trims and one of them grabs the blower and they are out of here.

Trimming bushes, pulling weeds is not included and most don’t want to fool with that part of landscaping.  New here ask a neighbor who does theirs!

Good morning Dick. When I moved to Florida I mowed my own lawn for six years. When we relocated from one coast to the other I had a landscaper who did about 70 homes in our 118 home development. Even convinced my neighbor to do the same. It's the Florida way. Enjoy your day.

Hello, Dick. This is a very funny and wise post. It's so true how a new climate can change everything! Your advice is excellent; paying for a good service to handle yard work is a perfect example of prioritizing local expertise. This kind of practical insight is incredibly helpful for anyone new to the area.

I had the same thing happen with washing my own car; it didn't last very long, haha.

Dick Betts I still mow my own lawn, and trim and edge as well.  But it is not as HOT and HUMID here in CT as it is in Florida.

HI Dick- we've had lawn services and Larry has mowed our lawn. We're retired so for now, Larry enjoys the exercise he gets from mowing.  That said, in our 90 degree heat, he stops and takes a lot of breaks.
