There has been a lot in the news, and on social media, for a couple of decades about Semiglutide and Tirzepitide. Those are the generic names for some brand names of some weight-loss drugs that include Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, and others.
Lots has been written about them, and lots of Hollywood-types have jumped on the band-wagon and abused them. They are controversial to say the least, but they have been 'life-changing' for some, and life-abusing for others.
They were designed, at least originally, as medication to get blood-sugar under control for diabetics, and were found to be highly effective at that, but a side-effect turned out to be serious weight loss in about 12-20% of their patients.
Well, to make a long-story-short (I know, I know... too late)... I decided to give it a try. I have fought that battle... yo-yo dieting most of my adult life. My insurance wouldn't pay for Ozempic (it's over $1,200 per pen, which is about a 1-month supply), but there are lots of online compound services these days, so I found one that offered Tirzepitide (the active ingredient in Zepbound or Wegovy) for about $250/mos and decided to take the risk.
I started taking it in March, giving myself very easy injections with a micro-needle once a week, along with moderating my intake of food (there ain't no such thing as magic), and have lost "literally" 10 pounds per month, with some regularity. Impressive!
I'm hoping to take off an additional 30 pounds, which will take me down to the weight I was in high-school. I won't say it's been easy... it hasn't. It's not as though it's been a magic pill (injection)... but what it has done is reduce what I call the "food noise". That constant craving that lives in my brain that says "I need to eat... right now!"I still go out to breakfast on Saturday mornings, with my sister, but I typically bring home half of my omelette in a to-go-box to eat for lunch later in the day, and I don't order the pancakes and toast that comes along with the breakfast, along with a glass of orange juice and a side of bacon... which prior to the Tirzepitide injections I would have eaten all of, with vigor!! If you knew me, you'd be impressed.
I've gotten to go shopping on the skinny side of my closet, wearing clothes that I haven't been able to wear for years. It's fun.
It's not for everyone, but it's working for me.
