Mirror Mirror on the Wall - Who's the Most Irritating One of All?

By
Real Estate Agent

I'm sure you've heard it said that the people that irritate us the most are the ones who expressing the same qualities that we have! Hmm......

No wonder our own family can be so annoying - we see ourselves in them! And I guess that goes to say, the see themselves in us!

Its probably not always true, but what an opportunity for growth if we can be alert to the possibility. We all know its easier to change ourselves then to change someone else!

So for example, we're working with this person who's a total pain in the butt......they whine, complain and are control freaks. Drive you crazy? Well.........chances are good we might be carrying some of those same traits ourselves...

Now maybe not at work........but...ever notice how we're often different at work then we are at home?.......Different settings and different relationships seem to bring out the different faces of Eve!

(and Adam)... Ok so maybe we don't complain at work, (maybe there's already someone else in the office wearing that hat)

but...maybe we're used to being in control at home.......so it pisses us off when we're not in control at work. Its true isn't it?

In many ways human nature isn't all that complex.......we share many of the same traits, stresses, triggers......so by being aware of what irritates us about others can give us some pretty keen insight about ourselves. Being 'conscious' of those irritants can if we let it, be almost like a system of checks and balances for ourselves.......We see what we don't like, and then can start the process of weeding out those traits in ourselves.

The opposite can also be true.........we see something we like in someone else - and we can let it be a source of inspiration ...and dare I say....imitation?

Moral of the story.....?  Maybe we'd be a little more blind to our sources of irritation, if we were a little more aware.........?  And maybe take a breath and count to TEN!

My mother and I drive each other bonkers.  It's because we both have the same exact personality.

We learned by my 19th birthday that we could be best friends as long as we did not have to live together.

At the same time, we get each other's humor like nobody else.  Sometimes, we can sit for an entire half hour laughing at each other on the phone and yet we've only said four words.

Liz, your Mother and your Daughter must be great .... great personality, decent person, good hearted, funny ... :)  ... my son, however, tends to be a sarcastic little pr*ck, sometimes. I wonder who he takes after ... :-D

Liz, interesting, no wonder I hate mirrors :-) good point. The older I get, the more I begin to rationalize in this way. when I was younger, I would judge too quickly . . . that's not good.

I also noticed how amazing it is that the older I get the less I remember. Which could be a smart thing too! :-)

Liz, what you say is so true. It would make sense then that opposites would attract? At the same time one feels comfortable with a person right off the bat because they have the same traits and interests. It's confusing. I love my family till they act like me! Ooops?

Thanks for the great post. Later in the rain~Deb

It is confusing............how we can be drawn both by similarities and differences..........now if I could get that concoction sorted out in the property porportion I might have better luck in my relationships!  (romantic ones)  grin
