Los Angeles Plumbers Install Low Flush Toilets To Conserve Water in Los Angeles

Los Angeles plumbers have their work cut out for them. Everything they do involves the use of water, and Los Angeles is located in the middle of a desert. The result is that the consumers usually need to be educated before they make changes or repairs to their plumbing system, in their home or office building. This especially holds true right now, when Los Angeles is again facing a water shortage.

One area where this comes into play is the installation and use of low flush toilets. The toilets that have been used for many years required about seven gallons of water each time they were flushed. If you add this up over a period of time you can see that quite a bit of water is wasted just by flushing your toilet several times each day.

During the 1990's people in the greater Los Angeles area, as well as around other parts of the United States, became more concerned with water conservation. A law was even passed, requiring homeowners to install low flush toilets whenever they sold their property. Many people jumped on the bandwagon to be the first to have these new toilets, and many others rebelled against it.

The low flush toilets only needed 1.6 gallons of water to flush. This satisfied the new law that mandated only 1.6 GPF (gallons per flush), but failed to address the problem of efficiently disposing of waste. Many homeowners refused to exchange or replace their old toilets with the new ones, and the price of used toilets skyrocketed.

Eventually the toilet manufacturers made changes in the design and waste disposal process with the new toilets. These newer versions made the best possible use of gravity assisted flushing. The water from the tank now goes through a wider flapper valve and trapway, and friction is reduced to ease the path for the waste to make its way to the sewage treatment plant.

If you want to make repairs or changes to your plumbing and you live in the Los Angeles area, make sure you work with a plumbing company like Schuelke Plumbing that can give you the latest information on water conservation.
