"WalletHub compared 182 cities across 15 key indicators of living standards for women", and one Maryland city ranks top in the nation! I am proud to live in the same county, practically next door, and can confirm that it's indeed a great place to live and thrive.
According to WalletHub, 86% of women in this city are physically active. This planned community features an extensive trail system, public parks, several man-made lakes, and fitness facilities throughout the town. It's a key indicator why the women living here enjoy good health in general, and have the 10th-highest life expectancy. They also rank high when it comes to regular screenings: a high percentage of women over 21 have received cervical cancer screenings, and women and their healthcare providers understand the importance of regular mammograms (top 3 in the nation).
The best city for women in 2025 has the highest median annual wages, a poverty rate of 8.2% which is the eighth-lowest in the country, and an unemployment rate of under 4%. Compare that one to 13% in other cities. 23% of businesses in this city are women-owned.
Is there room for improvement? Absolutely, there always is, but these stats make a strong case for why you should listen to WalletHub (and me), and consider relocating to *drumroll please* Columbia, MD, a town where you can maximize your potential (if you don't already live here)! 😀
Marylanders enjoy great leadership, reproductive rights, access to vaccines, the freedom to read (act was signed into law in April 2024), and sanctuary libraries. Marital status, sexual orientation, and gender identity are among the state-protected Fair Housing classes. Howard County, where Columbia is located, also protects personal appearance, political opinion, and citizenship/immigration. Click on the map to find out how your city ranks! FYI, Washington, DC came in at #13, and Baltimore at #36. The home of the Ravens & Orioles has made great strides more recently. I expect Charm City to rank even higher in the future.
