The One Day You’re Supposed To Ask Stupid Questions: September 28

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty 179530

ASK A STUPID QUESTION DAY: SEPTEMBER 28TH!

Today Is Your Excuse to Finally Ask the Questions Everyone’s Thinking (But No One Asks Out Loud)!

"He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask is a fool forever."

Mark Twain

Is it silly to wonder how many people don’t even realize that today, September 28th, is Ask A Stupid Question Day? Honestly, it’s one of those delightfully quirky holidays that sneaks up on us—yet it’s basically a free pass to ask the things you’ve always wanted to ask, no matter how off-the-wall they sound.

The whole idea behind Ask A Stupid Question Day started in the 1980s when teachers noticed kids were too shy to raise their hands, worried they’d look foolish. So they created a day where no question was off-limits. Since then, it’s become a fun reminder that curiosity is never something to be embarrassed about—because “stupid” questions often lead to the smartest answers.

So why not lean into it? Today’s the day to finally blurt out those half-formed thoughts, nagging “what ifs,” or bizarre wonders you’ve been sitting on. Whether it’s “Why is the sky blue?”, “Do fish get thirsty?”, or “If I delete the recycle bin, where does it go?”—let it fly. After all, the only truly stupid question is the one you never ask.

"Don't be afraid to ask the dumb question. Everyone else will be relieved you had the guts to ask."

... Sheryl Sandberg

National Ask A Stupid Question Day

"There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every questions is a cry to understand the world. There is no such thing as a dumb question."

... Carl Sagan

I laugh when I hear people say that there is no such thing as a stupid question, since I have heard people ask lots of stupid questions, haha.  I think that it is always ok to ask questions, though, whether they are stupid or not, haha.

Good morning Nina. Have to agree with Mark Twain and Sheryl Sandberg. I don't save my stupid questions for 9/28 on notecards. I just blurt them out as they come, get the answer, become smarter and move on. And, I can ask a lot of stupid questions. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin good morning, Wayne... whether training people or dealing with kids or dealing with clients, I'm a big believer in encouraging questions... all kinds of questions. And the ones people worry most about being stupid often are not stupid at all.

That is a great reminder, Nina Hollander, Broker, and your list of questions is absolutely hilarious! It’s so true that the only dumb question is the one you never ask, and I'm definitely wondering about the synchronized swimmer now.

Here's one: What would happen if I hired two private investigators to follow each other?

Thanks for giving us all a fun excuse to be curious today!

Great quote from Mark Twain.  I was one of the many, being afraid to ask.  What a nice change when I got passed that.  And it sure does tick people off when being asked questions they prefer not be asked or they do not know the answers to, but want you to think they do.   lol   Enjoy your Sunday Nina.  m
