Journaling for Saturday
A walk in the park is exactly what was needed. John Muir said it best - "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks." Today I learned what I see depends a lot on which side of the sun I'm facing and the time of day. Perception certainly shapes how we see and interpret things. I hope these little pillows of clouds I saw puts a smile on your face.

This flower in my garden was photographed on Friday evening at 5:54 P.M. I accepted and planted bulbs, sight unseen 28 years ago after moving to TX. A woman I worked with gave away bulbs from her mother's garden because her mom no longer wanted them. The next Fall one flower bloomed. Every year since then, I get more. These are my lovely Autumn red spider lilies. They blend beautifully next to my four-o'clocks. Some people rescue pets - I rescue plants that other people don't want.

What I love about Fall are the many varieties of mushrooms that grow on my front lawn and backyard. These are new ones to me. Did you know there are over 10,000 species of mushrooms in Texas! I don't eat mushrooms. I just like to smile at them!

Mother nature is very creative and kind to trees that don't make it. There are many benefits we can learn from mother nature's kind acts:
- Reduced stress.
- Stronger connection to nature.
- Surprises!
- Happiness.
- A positive attitude.
- Empathy towards aging.
I choose kindness as an alternative to being mean towards people or anything discovered in nature. While studying biology, I also learned to never forget our brain releases chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin - that's what makes us feel happy! Another thing I learned which ties nicely to "do unto others what you would have them to unto you," is to clothe yourself with compassion everywhere you go.

Reflections of kindness & compassion
can always be practiced.
