THE KEY: Don’t Let the Old Man In
The music of the late Toby Keith is usually on in the Streib home. It’s hard for me to list a favorite. However, as I approach another rotation of the earth around the sun, there is one song that sums up how I’m living my life.
Keith was playing golf with Clint Eastwood, who at that time was 88 and working on his film, The Mule. When he remarked how much energy Clint had, Mr. Eastwood replied, “I don’t let the old man in.”
Toby wrote the song, and it was included in the movie.

It never occurs to me that I am the age I am. I’ve told my family that if I’m injured in an accident or mugged, don’t let the papers say “Elderly woman, 76, is mugged in parking lot.”
When I catch myself in the mirror, I am often taken aback at who’s staring back at me. Conversely, in looking at older photos of me, I wonder who the much younger girl in the picture is.
Just a few years ago, I rolled down hills with my grandsons. I haven’t lately because…they’re too old!
I wish I had a magic pill to take and give to everyone. All I can offer is…
-Forget about how old your license says you are
-Have young people and children in your life
-Learn something new every day
-Do NOT let anyone tell you you’re old
- Keep moving
-DON’T LET THE OLD MAN (OR WOMAN) IN

Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional.
Walt Disney
None are so old as those who have outlived enthusiasm.
Henry David Thoreau
