"Homeward Bound" in Hammond, Indiana refers to the City of Hammond's Homebound Program, a down payment assistance program for eligible first-time homebuyers, especially full-time employees of the city's police, fire, education, and other professional departments. Within Hessville itself, there are several parks: Hessville Park, Dowling Park, Lost Park, and Harding Park, many of which have amenities like playgrounds, sports fields, walking paths, and picnic facilities.

Hessville has historic roots; for example, the Little Red Schoolhouse (Joseph Hess School) built in 1859, now preserved in Hessville Park, adds charm and a sense of continuity with the past. The Hessville Historical Society helps preserve and share this identity.
