REFLECTIONS OF OCTOBER
Unleaded Gas prices finally came down in Flower Mound. $2.49 sounds good!
I attended an engaging and entertaining workshop on Tuesday, 9/30 exploring how familiar songs can be re-invented - transformed into something fresh and unexpected through creative shifts in groove, harmony, and mood! Rosana Eckert, MMus, is a Grammy recognized jazz vocalist, songwriter, arranger, and improviser. She released three critically acclaimed solo albums, Sailing Home, and she co-leads the Brazilian jazz-fusion sextet Brasuka, whose downbeat praised debut A Vida Com Paixao appeared on numerous "Best of 2021 lists. She performs and records extensively, having collaborated with many jazz and vocal luminaires, including on 3 Grammy recognized projects, including 2023 Grammy-nominated track "How Deep Is Your Love," which she co-produced.
This was an interactive workshop, and participants could suggest familiar songs while she transformed them into swing, jazz, or whatever mood set the mood for something different and entertaining. As she explained, in her head is an extensive library of songs. Not only did she play the Baby Grand Piano, but she also sang. In conclusion, I walked away with a deeper appreciation for the value of memory, perfecting your craft, and the art of creative interpretation!
PERSONAL STORIES & MEMORIES
October 3rd - This is the anniversary of my first kiss. I was 16 years old.
October 16 & 17, 1976 - This is the anniversary of escaping from a RAMADA INN hotel fire in Dolton, IL. I was pregnant. My husband and I were invited to my friend's wedding. He decided to spend the night in a hotel instead of driving home late at night. For safety's sake, he took his gun. I did not like that, but it was his gun that saved our life. The fire started in the room across from ours. It was reported that kids were playing with hotel matches. When the smoke started billowing into our room, we escaped out the window using a ladder, thanks to the hotel janitor. My spouse shot and shattered the window to get us out of the building. I did go to the hospital. Four months later, I delivered a healthy baby boy.
October 31, 1988 - This is the date I negotiated the best new car sale. I was in the showroom with the last salesman on the floor. He couldn't leave until I finalized my sale. I gave him a hard bargain, telling him, he would have to reduce the sales price the next month, so why not give it to me now, the price I'm willing to pay. Plus, I knew he wanted to take his kids trick-or-treating. He agreed to the price I offered and that was a very fine price!!!

October - What Can Compare (My best October Poem)
October is a pleasant time;
The foliage is so sublime,
And there's a briskness in the air
What with October can compare?
Though fainter are the solar glints,
Thought fainter, too, the floral tints,
Though month-end finds the trees quite bare,
What with October can compare?
In town and country, forest, field,
Is garnered kindly Nature's yield.
The harvest urges thankful prayer.
What with October can compare?
BEST OCTOBER SONG & LYRICS
You go away at night
Keep in mind the last time
But don't ignore the first
Raise your eyes just go again
There will be a next time
You stay stay stay well you never know
Day day day will rise again
You know know know it will come again
It will come again
But don't ignore the worst
Raise your eyes just go again
There will be a next time
You stay stay stay well you never know
Day day day will rise again
You know know know it will come again
It will come again
There would be no divide
In a perfect world
We could both open up
And see the other side
And see the other side
So you go where you wanna be
They say it will set you free
You know it's never so
You go, you're on your way
On your way
On your way
On your way
