I get asked all the time which is better for the wind here in The Villages, FL block stucco or wood frame. I tell people it is a matter of preference as both homes are built to the same building codes when it comes to withstanding wind. You can see by the picture homes built in The Villages need to withstand 150 MPH which we haven’t seen. You might feel more secure in block stucco, some think block stucco looks nicer than wood fame but hold on a minute! I have a wood frame stucco home, yep The Villages built them and you can’t tell the difference just driving by.
I am seeing people replacing vinyl siding with Hardie Board, don’t know what that is? Here are parts of an email I got today: “Think all Florida homes have to be stucco? Think again. Thanks to state-of-the-art resilient building techniques, wood frame construction with Hardie® products have what it takes to stand up to Florida’s unique climate. From hurricanes to humidity, homebuyers can be confident wood frame construction will protect them from Florida weather.
For those homebuyers who are hesitant about all-wood frame homes, you can reassure them that all-wood frame homes are engineered to meet the same stringent Florida building codes as block homes. Homes must comply with a rigorous inspection process that ensures every metal connector and fastener is securely in place to ensure a continuous load path from frame to foundation. When it comes to extreme weather, homebuyers can take added confidence that Hardie® siding is Engineered for Climate® and helps resist the impacts of windblown debris and is approved for installation in High Velocity Hurricane Zones.”
