As A REALTOR Do You USE AI Too Much? Be Careful!

By

OK as a REALTOR do we become lazy and rely on AI and Auto Corrected text TOO MUCH? Are we communicating as a HUMAN or a ROBOT? (Image: Human AI, Gerd Altmann, Pixabay)

What does AI actually look like, anyway? Is he/she a little magical elf or gnome that knows what we are thinking, generally, and can make it all come out perfect?

It is great when the AI automatically auto-corrects our human mistakes. However, sometimes AI makes mistakes as well. Or the facts that AI pulls up on our inquiries is about something else completely unintended from what you thought you were asking. AI can get confused by common sense knowledge that humans possess that is not explicitly stated in the text. Our clients depend on us a REALTOR to understand their needs and wants.

The bottom line? You have to actually READ what you thought you wrote in an email or document before you hit that SEND button. Don't assume that AI will make it right.

Let me explain.

Too many of us assume that auto correct on our text messages, emails and letters would help us stay out of trouble. Well.....apparently not...read on.

Does AUTO CORRECT and Voice Dictation seem like a great process in theory, but do you spend more time manually having to correct the auto correct and if you miss one mistake, sometimes strange or even "embarrassing" words go out in your texts and emails? The "dictation typo" is a new American phenomenon. Use common sense and read what AI wrote.

How Does Auto Correct Actually Work?

Garden Gnome Elf

Think of Auto Correct as this: There is a little elf in your phone working VERY HARD to correct your messages but is in fact quite drunk.

Do you need help in selling or buying a home so that little elf does not mess things up? Have you noticed some Realtors say they will "Sell Your House For More"? What on earth does that clearly mean and for more than what? What everyone needs is a "HUMAN REALTOR®" that speaks in human terms and not with hyperbole or conflicted meanings. Human interaction, empathy, understanding emotions and pressures of life are not things that AI can grasp. Facts yes but even those sometime require human intervention. Thank you Dorie. Jeff

Hi Jeff- I'm so tired of not being able to speak with a real human being when I call a company!!! AI has its place but it will never replace us.

With facts AI can be good but in dealing with people as you say Kathy it is difficult for AI to learn human empathy, facts yes empathy not so much. Jeff

What the "hello" can one do about it other than to turn the little autocorrect elf off.

Thank you Bill. Hope you have a super fantastic week as well. Can you believe it, sometimes people use AI for comments on posts. What say you?

Good morning, Jeff... I turned off all the auto-corrects many years ago... too many mistakes with grammar, spelling, punctuation.

I mostly have Nina. However, I do like to use dictation and some of the words it comes up with are amazing.

Good morning Jeff. Auto-correct is so often incorrect it has turned me off to AI altogether. While for those still active, AI may be a tool, as a retired guy I'll pass. Enjoy your day.

That's right Wayne. Autocorrect is working very hard at producing the wrong thoughts.

Thanks for sharing this insightful post, Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI. I really appreciate how you highlight the importance of staying human in our communication, even with all the AI tools around. It’s a good reminder for us all to double-check our messages and not rely too much on technology to do the thinking for us.

The problem with AI, if they receive "garbage in", they are going to spit it right back out. What is the "source" of their intelligence?

Jeff Masich-Scottsdale AZ Associate Broker,MBA,GRI - this is an excellent post to reflect on for everyone in the real estate business. It is also good for self-publishers who don't want to pay an Editor and get published because it costs time and money. I've seen movies that looks like the guy in your image, and I did not like that scary face! If this post scares someone - you got your point across! Kudos to you, Jeff!

And sometimes we as REALTORS don't even bother to read our own writing that was AI enhanced. Too trusting.

I definitely don't rely upon AI too much since I really only use it as a search tool and for research.  I am learning more about it, though.  I do like having my typos pointed out so that I can correct them, but that has been happening for a long time now, haha.

Got you Brian, even the Google search is AI as the research for you that is gathered by an accumulation of text data on the internet which we know, may or may not be true. So everything, technically, that we gather from Google needs to be checked or a mistake could be shared. Of course a query such as "What year was the declaration of indepence was signed?" is more likely to be accurate. However when subjective questions are Google this is where answers can be doubted and are not a statement of fact.
