Obsesion is an easy topic to tie to Real Estate.

The number one obsession that I can think of is the obsession to own a mansion, the biggest home in the neighborhood or the most impressive property in general. To me this is an unhealthy obsession.
Even if you think "sure, why not. I've got the money?" I'd just say it's not always a good financial decision, It's most obviously an ego driven decision. Just as obvious is the fact that I, like most Realtors, welcome the commission associated with selling a mansion but do you really need it?
I'm not a minimalist but I am a very practical man.
Other obsessions I have seen as a Real Estate agent include (but not limited to) include: Keeping up with trends such as floor coverings, paint colors and countertops. There is nothing wrong with caring about these things but again, I am a practical man.
If you are preparing to sell your home you need to understand that making major upgrades is NOT cost effective. What is effective is keeping your home as close to spotless as possible. Spend money on curb appeal so people will want to come and see the inside. Remember most people want to pick their own paint colors in the home so you painting it may be a total waste of your money. The same is true for floor coverings. Upgrading appliances is always a good thing if your current appliances are 10 years old or older.
