What is an Obsession?

Obsesion is an easy topic to tie to Real Estate.

The number one obsession that I can think of is the obsession to own a mansion, the biggest home in the neighborhood or the most impressive property in general. To me this is an unhealthy obsession.

Even if you think "sure, why not. I've got the money?" I'd just say it's not always a good financial decision, It's most obviously an ego driven decision. Just as obvious is the fact that I, like most Realtors, welcome the commission associated with selling a mansion but do you really need it?

I'm not a minimalist but I am a very practical man.

Other obsessions I have seen as a Real Estate agent include (but not limited to) include: Keeping up with trends such as floor coverings, paint colors and countertops. There is nothing wrong with caring about these things but again, I am a practical man.

If you are preparing to sell your home you need to understand that making major upgrades is NOT cost effective. What is effective is keeping your home as close to spotless as possible. Spend money on curb appeal so people will want to come and see the inside. Remember most people want to pick their own paint colors in the home so you painting it may be a total waste of your money. The same is true for floor coverings. Upgrading appliances is always a good thing if your current appliances are 10 years old or older.

Do you enjoy the cartoons written by my son (Timmothy N. Timm) which I use as a springboard to write my daily posts? His strip, Titus & Philemon, has run in two newspapers for years as well as being printed in my blog every day. Titus & Philemon (pronounced Phi - Lee -Man) are guinea pigs. Their owner is Joe. Timmothy has never repeated a joke/comic strip in the 12 years he has been writing it. He has never copied another strip, such as Peanuts or Garfield. You can follow Timmothy on FB as Titus & Philemon and you can also check him out on Instagram as Instagram.com/titus and philemon/ .For Timmothy's website type timmtimmothy.com into your browser. I tried to put it in a link here but it refuses to work. Do NOT put anything in front of timmtimmothy.com or it will not work.

Good morning, Bob... I'll admit that I've always made my decisions about renovating, building, decorating my homes with the thought of how it would sell one day. So far so good... all of my homes have sold quickly and at top dollar.

Good morning Bob. Obsession by one is excessive and unnecessary to another. I did go through a phase where I wanted the big house but never pulled the trigger after much pondering. Now, I desire to have enough space to be comfortable and utilize all of it. Enjoy your day.

As an adult I have owned two homes with less than 700 sq feet and have lived their very comfortably Wayne Martin . My home today is just over 1,000 sq feet and it serves Carol, Timmothy and I well. I did own a project home about 30 years ago and it was about 3,oo sq feet. It was very nice once I fixed it up but there was no reason for me to live in the little town it was located in so I sold it and moved to Minot.

A few years ago my girlfriend and I decided to downsize. I had a beach home and she had horse property with acres and a barn. We now have a really nice home where the HOA cuts the grass and waters the lawn. I am much happier...lol

I can understand your contentment Jeffrey DiMuria 321.223.6253 Waves Realty . If my son was not living with us and so willing to help out I'd be very open to moving into a HOA.

Good morning Bob,

So many choices and so many different people with different desires, wants and needs. I'm seeing many families buy a bigger home because they are going to live with muti-generations. makes sense..one house and all chip in.

"Where There's a Will, There's a Way!"

Hello Bob,  My wife did not want to live in a HOA community, she is one that would do something and be fighting with them.  As for me I would follow the rules and still have the rules in my head that we do have the best home on our street.
