The Trick to Being Happy!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Retired Broker/Owner AZ Broker BR030809000

Being happy is easier than you think! With Fall in the air a lot of folks are outside enjoying the weather and thinking happy thoughts along the pumpkin path.  Here in PHX we've had quite a bit of rain lately and the flowers are in full bloom.  It is so pretty everywhere you look!  And it is so uplifting to see all the colors!

I was fortunate to learn and model "To Think Is To Create" at a young age from my parents.  It later became "What You Focus On is What You Create ( Law of Attraction).  And it took me a few years to learn how to deliberately 'SHIFT' my thoughts immediately to better feeling thoughts whenever I started going down a slippery slope.  I continued to practice and practice again, again and again. I did whatever it took to get where I wanted to be -  in a happy space.  Now it's easy for me to SHIFT my thoughts and feelings on a dime.  It's all within my power as it's within yours.  Yes it's always a choice to chose being happy. And even during the healing process this past few months I chose to be happy. Every time I got a little down, I immediately thought of something good, something to be grateful for.  Like Little Norman!  Who was by my side constantly!  He makes me smile!!

The other day I heard a neighbors young house cleaner complaining about her clients out by her car.  Everything was  blah, blah blah. She was blaming her clients for why things weren't going well on the job. She was sounding very victimy (is that a word)!  Then she noticed me sitting on the front porch and sighed a big one. I smiled at her and asked her to come over as we've talked many time before.  I was surprised she did in the mood she was in.  Guess what I said to her!! I wished her a better day.....and added in my little phrase.  You know, "To Think Is To Create, right"?   Maybe shifting your thinking  will help make things work out better for you?  She nodded her head, and said,  you're probably right.  And thank you for caring! And gave me a big smile!  We'll see how she is next time she's in the neighborhood. I hope better 💛

For me, part of it is creating the environment.  Filtering my Facebook feed, choosing what I do and don't read or give my time to.  If something lives perpetually in the negative zone, I've probably pushed it to the side.

My motto as well Liz and Bill Spear (Bill)!  I tune out negative people and all that crazy stuff online and off.  Simply won't waste my energy on it.

Hello Anna - we have control.  All sorts of things seem to happen - often simultaneously.    Accentuate the positive, avoid the negative.

We do indeed have control Michael Jacobs. Things going on left and right and choosing what to pay attention to is critical. Accentuate the positive!  I like that!

Hey Anna,

I love this!  You know, I know you're right... right?  Happiness really is a choice, and shifting our thoughts can change everything.

I saw it in action just yesterday on the golf course. My partner had a rough first hole (I had a good one, so no harm done; it's a team event!). She sighed and said, “So, it’s going to be that kind of day.” I laughed and told her, “You need to read my book!” 😂 Then I reminded her to focus on the next shot.

She did. She relaxed, and the energy totally shifted. We ended up having a great day, and our entire team won not only the day but the entire season! 🏆🎉

It’s amazing how a simple mindset shift can turn everything around, on the course and in life.

I know you know Carol Williams !  You've shown it time after time after time over the years.  Fun news about the team event yesterday!  You helped her relax and accentuate the positive as Michael Jacobs calls it.  Congrats to the big win!!

Good morning, Anna... at the end of the day, most everything in life is about mindset and a decision to be happy, to be successful, to be kind. I always tell people who start worrying about "what might happen," to not borrow troubles that might never arise.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker that always has me wondering when folks talk about what 'could' happen.  There are a lot of what' if's that never ever come to fruition.  Why even begin!!

Good morning Anna. I believe it was Stephen Covey who said "man has the advantage of having the power to choose". My motto, choose wisely. Learning to "shift" when your thinking is going negative requires you to push the "return" button in your mind and start a fresh line. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin I too use that phrase often - Choose Wisely!  I enjoyed Stephen Covey as well.  Enjoy your day too - Grandkids today?

Our mind is a powerful thing. Learning to steer it where we want to be is such an important life long skill (and requires constant practice). Good for you for giving the neighbor's cleaner a pep talk. I'm sure she appreciated it.

It is a life long skill that takes practice perfecting Kat Palmiotti!  She's a sweet young lady....just needed a little pep talk from a 'Grandma' type!!  She also enjoyed seeing the fall decors we had just put out.....helped her shift a bit I think.

Another wise thought Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist !  What we focus on expands. Choose Wisely.  You know I was blessed to be around a lot of positive thinkers over the years  (and still am) and that is so powerful.  Kind of like a mastermind of creating!

Hi Sharon Tara absolutely  who doesn't like positive reinforcement!  I think she did.....at least a friendly chat.

Hi Anna- we're on the same wavelength with this one. As I got older, I told myself that one of the advantages of aging was that I had better opportunities to divest myself of negative people, events or things.   We all have choices. Sometimes they're not what we would want them to be but it's a choice.

I think of the movie Pollyanna. She chose to be happy and look for the good in things.

You have been through heck but you continue to choose happiness. That's the way to roll.

Anna "Banana" Kruchten

Hi Kathy Streib yes wisdom over time!  It's a learning curve to stay clear of negativity. I simply don't get involved in that game. Oh lord if I could say how many times over my life I've been called PollyAnna.......since I was a kid. Often times they were making fun of me for being so positive.  I learned to say - thank you I am a Pollyanna!

Thanks so much for sharing this lovely post, Anna "Banana" Kruchten. Your words truly remind us how powerful our thoughts are and how a simple shift can make all the difference. I appreciate you taking the time to spread such warmth and insight. It's a gentle nudge we can all use to find a bit more happiness each day.

Happy Friday Lew Corcoran !  Many folks don't realize how powerful one tiny thought after another creates good or not so good.  I feel like I've taken on my Mom's approach to talking with young folks and they all loved her so much.  Kids need support so much these days!!  Albeit this young lady isn't a kid but I'm guessing she's had some tough times in life.

Anna "Banana" Kruchten You are the one who makes things happen! I, too, lived in a world where my parents were positive and taught me I could be whoever I wanted to be. My mom lived by a song and a smile. They worked hard, and I worked hard. Nothing was handed to me, and working hard makes me happy. Being alive makes me Happy . So glad Carol Williams  featured as I missed this

Anna "Banana" Kruchten - what makes people happy is being happy in the first place. You can't depend on others to make you happy - it's an inside job. But sometimes, with the help of a good friend or neighbor, happiness appears like magic! We can all be happy, helpful, and a good friend.

Happy is an inside mind game that goes on moment to moment, day after day......you get where I'm going!  One thought (or feeling) to another.  Chose Wisely my mentor  50 years or so ago said to me one day. I can still remember the the look on his face when he said.....so you really want to go THERE?   No way I said!!  Happy Sunday Patricia Feager 😊

Hi Belinda Spillman good to hear from you!  We'll catch you next time you're in town.  Glad you weren't here this past 5 days - rained the entire time!  No golfing for sure.  Gary needs to make a trip up to get his chili sauce from the one remaining restaurant!  He tried to make it but OMG it didn't turn out well by a long shot!!  I'm going to try and find one to make and I hope it works out.
