Enter the Home Inspector: Clouseau in Cargo Pants
We've all heard about the FBI's Mar-a-Lago lingerie raid, where agents went through First Lady Melania's underwear drawers looking for 'classified documents'. Well, recently, a local home inspector, rummaged through an owner's intimate items in her bedroom was caught on camera!
At one point, he looked right at the video cam and proceeded to fumble through more. Talk about cringeworthy! Home inspectors are supposed to search out potential defects that adversely affect a property like termites, system failures, not to uncover Victoria's Secrets.
According to the home owner, he left every window unlocked and took pictures of things that had nothing to do with the inspection. She became afraid he was coming back, then quickly changed the locks on the exterior doors and ensured all windows were secure.
He is straight-up creepy, and more than just some overreaching, entitled dude with a flashlight looking for trouble. The home owner can file a civil suit because the emotional distress, negligence and costs of hardware, not to mention, the contract could tank because of the erosion of trust.
Beyond the law, this was a gut punch to the home owner who allowed this person into her home to provide a service for the buyers. My advice: Be present, also vet the people crossing the threshold of your sanctuary. Though some may hold a license to perform, doesn't mean they should.
Thankfully, the home owner installed video cameras in most rooms of her house and in the garage as well. The inspector went through most everything there too! This wannabe Clouseau is a NO, NO, NO-GO!
