The Final Goodbye To A You Sir
Many years ago, a wise agent told me, "There's no loyalty in this industry." The Pollyanna in me quickly poo-pooed the notion, having just exited the corporate carousel ride and excitedly entered into the real estate world. Little did I realize some truth exists to that statement!
Thankfully, many past clients have called with repeat business but there are people who have left me feeling used when they hire another agent. Recently, while scouring recent sales, I saw a property that I spent some time on and became curious. I placed a call to the seller, left a message.
He returned the call an hour later. I explained to him that, "I expected to get the call after years of remaining in touch, phoning, answering questions, providing several CMA reports, discussing sales strategies, visiting the property to give advice on improvements to net you more money."
Silence followed.
Finally, I spoke up, "You know, if I depended on people like you to remain in business, I'd be homeless, standing in a food line." He didn't like that honest statement and started making lame excuses. Before disconnecting, I told him, "I am a loyal person, unlike you sir."
Then, cut him off like a 90-year old granny, who can barely see over the dash, going 85 mph, drifting from lane-to-lane on a packed, 6-lane, super highway and said a final good-bye. I'm so done with user's.
Industry Lesson: Sometimes, it is necessary to let go of people who have zero respect for the time, resources and energy spent. Chances are, you'll never earn their business.
