The Glen Foerd Mansion is within walking distance of my community. It is located on Grant and State Rd 5001, Grant Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19114. It is located along the Delaware River in Northeast Philadelphia, on 18 acres, and is open to the public.

A visit to the public gardens of the Philadelphia region is an opportunity to stroll through the history of American horticulture when William Penn first arrived on its eastern shores to lay claim to the hardwood forests of what he named Pennsylvania, or Penn’s Woods.
Although a handful of Europeans had already established a presence in this lush land that had long been home to the Lenni Lenape Indians, many of the new settlers were Quakers, like Penn, who established a home and large garden at Pennsury Manor on the Delaware River. The Quakers were intensely interested in the natural world as a way of understanding God, and their fascination with plants began a gardening tradition that prevailed for future generations.

Charles Macalestor owned the property and established the estate in 1789. He was the governor of the 2nd bank of the United States of America. He named it Glen Foerd after his home in Scotland.

The main house was built in 1850 and expanded over time as a private residence. Glen Foerd is currently home to historic artwork and artifacts, both American and European, as well as contemporary art installations. The grounds have flowering shrubs, including a formal rose garden and riverfront oaks that are over 300 years old. The park is open to the public from 8 am to dusk and is beautiful. I have enjoyed walking it many times; in fact, it is pretty breathtaking. The house has a lovely view of the Delaware River.

They will be having a Masquerade Party there. I was fortunate to have received an invitation. I have also been to several weddings there. What a fun and interesting place, as you walk through time in this enchanting place full of history and beauty
