Did you know that October is Cybersecurity Month? I didn't! (hence the reason I'm blogging about it more than halfway through October!)
It turns out that National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM) is an annual campaign that started in 2004. Where have I been?? This month is dedicated to promoting cybersecurity best practices and educating the public about cyber threats.
Here are some smart ways to protect your password:
- Focus on length, not complexity, by creating a passphrase that is at least 15 characters long. They're easier to remember and harder to crack.
- Enable 2-step verifications
- Consider using a trusted password manager to strengthen your online security.
According to the Awareness Days website, here are more ways to raise awareness and adopt best practices to strengthen digital security:
- Educate Yourself: Learn about common cyber threats, such as phishing, malware, and ransomware, and how to recognize and avoid them.
- Update Software: Ensure that your devices, operating systems, and software applications are up to date with the latest security patches.
- Back Up Data: Regularly back up your important data to secure and accessible locations to prevent data loss in case of cyberattacks.
- Share Knowledge: Educate friends, family, and colleagues about cybersecurity best practices and encourage them to participate in NCSAM.
- Stay Informed: Follow cybersecurity news, blogs, and resources to stay updated on the latest threats and security tips.
Stay Safe Online!
