Saving the Planet one toy at a time

I love a good recycle program!

I recently learned that Mattel offers a wonderful toy recycle program.  The program is designed to recover and reuse the materials in old toys for future Matell products.

According to their website, Mattel PlayBack, 'Consumers can participate in the program by visiting Mattel's website, printing a free shipping label and packing and mailing their toys back to the company. The toys will then be sorted and separated by material type and processed and recycled, according to the company. Materials that cannot be repurposed as recycled content in new toys will either be downcycled into other plastic products or converted from waste to energy.'

The program currently accepts many Mattel brands for recycling including:

  • Barbie®
  • Hot Wheels®
  • Fisher-Price®
  • AMERICAN GIRL®
  • UNO®
  • MEGA™
  • Apples to Apples®
  • Barney™
  • Blokus®
  • DOS™
  • Jurassic World
  • Little People®
  • Matchbox™
  • Mattel Brick Shop™
  • MEGA BLOKS®
  • MONSTER HIGH™
  • POLLY POCKET™
  • Rock-a-Stack®
  • Skip-Bo®
  • Thomas & Friends™
  • Whac-a-Mole®

Just another resource to help people with decluttering and cleaning out.

Hello Kelly - I believe there is too much "stuff" in our world.  Sharing can be caring.  It's a step-by-step process and it can start in countless ways.

Kelly McGovern good morning, Kelly... now that is a great initiative to recycle. Love it. As our grands are full grown adults (the youngest is 26) no toys to recycle at my end. But I would if I could.

Nina Hollander, Broker No kids or grandkids for me, but the amount of 'stuff' I see in sellers' homes is something else.  It's great to have alternative places to donate or recycle, vs. throwing in a dumpster and having it all go to a landfill!

Kelly McGovern I agree... we've moved so much I've learned to go through my house at least twice a year and donate or recycle whatever I no longer want or need.

What a fantastic program, Kelly! It’s great to see companies like Mattel taking real steps toward sustainability while helping families declutter responsibly. Every little effort adds up—and now is the time! 🌎♻️

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518 It sure is a great program!  There should be a requirement that companies have to take back their stuff to recycle.  So much is just tossed nowadays: TVs, phones, gadgets, clothing, toys.  You name it!

Good morning Kelly,

I love that Mattel came up with this program to initiate recycling. Mor companies need to implement programs like this!

Will Hamm I'm all over the board on here.  Whatever I experience in a day/week, I write about it now.  I always thought a reality show should follow us around to see what we go through.  I can at least write about experiences and share what I learn.

This is a great program for folks that have stuff hanging around in the house.  I don't think we have any toys except for dog toys!  And they don't want them!

This is a great program Kelly McGovern -  back in the day, when my son was younger, we practiced donating the toys to places that would give them to kids who did not have toys.

I used to see places to donate toys to, but it seems now places only want 'new in box' donations, which is strange to me!  Either way, as long as completely usable items don't end up in the landfill it's a win!

Hi Kelly- I love this idea!  It appeals to my love of not adding to the landfills unless necessary. I'm sending this information to my nieces.

What a gem of a post, Kelly McGovern ! I had no idea Mattel was doing this, and it’s such a smart, feel-good way to clear out old toys while helping the planet 🌍. Thanks for sharing this—it’s the kind of info that sticks and sparks action!

I did not know this, but it seems like a really good program since toys often lose their luster as kids get older, haha.
