Rediscovering Our Humanity in the Age of AI

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Realty ~ 512.750.6899

AI seems to be on everyone’s lips these days, shaping conversations, decisions, and even how we define intelligence. But as technology grows smarter, I can’t help but wonder: are we forgetting to talk about authentic humanity? Are we letting it slip quietly into the background, overshadowed by algorithms and artificial insight?

It’s almost funny to think that we no longer need to compete to be “the smartest in the room.” AI has that covered. Instead, this new era offers us a gift, the freedom to focus on what only humans can do best: to love more deeply, listen more intentionally, and truly see one another.

When I came across this quote by Desmond Tutu, it felt like a light bulb moment:

“My humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together.”

It reminded me that no matter how advanced technology becomes, it can never replace the warmth of connection, the power of empathy, or the shared experience that binds us all.

As AI evolves, maybe our greatest opportunity isn’t to keep up with machines, but to remember what it means to simply be human, together.

Good morning Dorie. You nailed it. And, by the way, my experience with AI is it is loaded with a lot of garbage. Enjoy your day.

Dorie, AI can assist and enhance, but it can’t replicate the heart behind human connection!

I think we need to teach our children to put down their phones, get off social media and enjoy the small things in life. We live in crazy times.

It's a great tool to use Joan Cox  but so many are so engrossed in the excitement of it all I think they need to take a good look at where it's headed.

I love that quote and how true. Maybe our politics would be better if we all understood that rather than tearing each other down.

Dorie- I love your post and the quotation you shared by Desmond Tutu. It is critical for our future that we remember that fellow human beings are who we need to be interacting with, not a figureless "voice" in cyberville.

Hi Dorie,
AI may make us more efficient, but only the personal touch creates genuine connection and compassion. Maybe this era isn’t about racing against technology, but finding the heart behind every interaction.

Dorie, I often wonder if all the advantages of AI outweigh what we lose in return.  Does AI make us smarter, or does it make us dumber because it can do it for us???

A good question George Souto . I enjoying doing things and don't want to be relegated to doing nothing!

AI might be really smart and able to do some things better than humans, but there are things that humans do that will never be able to be done by AI, haha.

Dorie they are making a concerted effort to not allow kids to use their phones anymore while at school.  I think that is an excellent idea. They're already starting to learn to connect more with others. Shared experience, not constantly on line or relying on AI.

I love what you said.....

What is really ominous is more and more people live in their phones and pay more attention to social media than they pay attention to the world around them. Ai takes this to another level

I use AI every day. It’s here to stay, and the agents who learn how to use it will have the edge. I don’t see it replacing Realtors—it just makes us sharper, faster, and better for our clients. Use it for what it’s good at, and it’ll change your business.
