Thankful for ActiveRain Zoom Meetings

ActiveRain Zoom Meeting presenters are rich in wisdom. Why spend thousands of dollars on professional Conferences spending money on registration fees, transportation, hotels, food, and the cost to do business when you're out of town if you can get all the education, you need FREE on ActiveRain? Zoom Meetings are held once a week on Tuesday. Watch for announcements about weekly presenters via posts by George Souto.

Debe Maxwell, CRS was the Guest Speaker for this past Tuesday's meeting. The topic for her presentation was North Carolina. From now until the end of December, members have an opportunity to earn additional points for attending and doing a small, but thoughtful assignment for what you learned. For this week's assignment, attendees were asked to compare what they learned from Debe's presentation about her state to their own. Below is my entry:

RELOCATION

When relocating or living in the right location, one should think about the state’s economy. Most people relocate because of job opportunities. It's important to research the company, but have you ever stopped to think about the state's economy?

North Carolina

After attending Debe Maxwells’ Zoom meeting, on October 21, I learned the number one crop for North Carolina is Tobacco. Other vital crops the state depends on for their economy are Sweet Potatoes. North Carolina is the leading producer of sweet potatoes in the nation. The next time you buy sweet potatoes for the holiday or any other time of the year, think of where your sweet potatoes were grown.

When it comes to the economy of North Carolina, agricultural products play a crucial role in this state’s economy and contribute to the nation it’s agricultural diversity.

Texas

How does the economy in Texas compares to North Carolina? Living in the State of Texas, I know how crucial a state’s economy and agricultural products are to the Governor, the people, and to the nation’s agricultural diversity. Texas leads the nation in Cotton. It is known for its profitability. In addition to Cotton, Sorghum and Pecans are among the profitable crops grown in Texas.

In order to grow, crops in both North Carolina and Texas depend a lot on the weather. In Texas, the warm, dry climate of the High Plains is responsible for providing ideal conditions for this fiber crop. Cotton is vital for the textile industry globally, and Texas holds a special significance in agricultural heritage.

Other Factors To Consider

Whether one decides to move or live in Texas, North Carolina or somewhere else, think about the economy and the protection you get from our Military. In geographic size, Texas is larger. But bigger doesn't always mean better. When it comes to the Military, consider the number of military bases needed for our country to serve and protect our homeland, America.

North Carolina has numerous military bases which includes various branches of the military, with Fort Bragg (no longer changed to Fort Liberty) having the largest military complexes of the world. Because of the size, Texas has more than double the number of military bases. Originally known as Fort Hood (now Fort Cavazos), Fort Hood remains the largest base in Texas.

ActiveRain Zoom

In sum, there is a lot more to Zoom than squares with people's faces. There is true education and that is something everyone associated with the Real Estate Industry needs to understand. Presenters are Guest Speakers. Put that on your bio or resume! And the best part is, ActiveRain Presenters are Voluntarily giving their time for Free for all of us to benefit. Let's all show gratitude.

Good morning Patricia. Great post to push attendance at the Zoom meetings on Tuesday. While I am unable to attend, I endorse attendance to those who can regularly by commenting on the Sunday post by George Souto announcing the speaker and the topic. The Rain is a valuable resource of all members. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin - I think it's safe to say, all of us on ActiveRain make family our priority. It is understandable that you spend time with your grandson. By endorsing attendance for Zoom meetings, you give more to this community than you know!

Thank you!

Hi Patricia! It's always such a pleasure having you with us on Tuesdays. I'm thrilled you were able to attend yesterday and hear all about the state you almost called home! Great synopsis and comparison to Texas. I'm with you on getting Kat to share the sweet potato recipe too - I need to share one of my own in a post this week!

Thank you for your kind words as well and for being a part of our Zoom family.

Debe Maxwell, CRS - You have a way of making everyone feel good about themselves and I am thrilled to be affiliated with you on ActiveRain. I do believe that if I had moved to NC I would have been happy.  Before coming to Texas, that choice was on my radar. The agents I worked with were like you, very positive, knowledgeable, and innovative. Before I arrived, they made a VHS Tape and mailed it to me. They made me feel welcomed before Abbott proposed a different plan for me. And that is how I always perceived you. You're like the welcoming committee to NC and to members on AR! Debe, your positive energy is contagious!

Thank you, for accepting me for who I am and always making me feel like I belong.

Nick Vandekar, 610-203-4543 - It was such a great and educational post. I'm looking forward to reading other blog posts about this assignment. It will help jog my memory about information I may have forgotten.

Just like every time I hear someone mention PA, I think of you and Hannah Williams; every time I see sweet potatoes in the grocery store, I will be thinking of sweet Debe too!

Hi Patricia,
I've enjoyed all of the presentations highlighting our states, and Debe Maxwell, CRS was certainly no exception. I had been looking forward to learning more about NC, and she did not disappoint. It's hard to do our various states justice, though, in one hour, isn't it?

I also want that Kat Palmiotti sweet potato recipe. Maybe she will include that in the next weekend BananaTude recipe submission.  I have a sweet potato casserole that I make for the holidays. I wish I had it with me now.

The zoom call was so interesting and Debe Maxwell, CRS gave us lots of information about NC that I had no idea about!  Our kids live there along with 4 grandkids so we do go there from time to time and so enjoy the beach. And who knew sweet potatoes was a big crop in NC?  I too would like Kat Palmiotti recipe!

Anna "Banana" Kruchten - Well, I just learned something new about you. I did not know you had four grandkids who live in North Carolina. How wonderful you get to spend time with them at the beach or wherever else you go.

I guess we all know what recipe Kat Palmiotti will provide this weekend :)

What a thoughtful and eye-opening post, Patricia Feager. Thank you for sharing such rich insights with warmth and clarity. I really appreciated the comparison between states and the reminder that real education doesn’t always come with a price tag. Grateful for the time, care, and perspective you poured into this!

George Souto - There is value in spending an hour once a week or as often as possible to attend a Zoom meeting. I think it's safe to say the AR Membership dignifies and appreciates all members with a safe and caring environment on this platform, with thoughtful resources that promote education and fellowship.

You do not need to sign up. The link is the same every week, and they are held at 11:00 Pacific time. I'm not sure what time that is Kona time. You're two or three hours behind Pacific time, but I don't think you observe daylight savings.  We will be going off Daylight Savings Time November 2nd.

Here is the link

Hi Patricia,
The other thread we had going was getting long. I put in the link to my Washington slides, but not sure you saw it because it was hidden in "more comments".

Hi Carol.  I’ve got some family that lives in Wenatchee.  I don’t think I knew where they lived until this year.  When my dad was younger he went to school in Spokane and those are some of his fondest memories.  He was raising himself basically and worked as a farm hand.  He graduated from High School but then ended up coming to Texas to work, met my mom and the rest is history.  Washington is a beautiful state.  I enjoyed looking at your slides!

Oct 27, 2025 03:26 AM

Hi Carol Williams - Wasn't that great that Brenda J. Andrew shared some of her own family who she recently learned live in Wenatchee!!! Your slides were very, very helpful!!! Brenda and I really appreciate your sharing the links!

Hi Carol Williams - I did manage to see all the slides with the first link you provided. Seeing them for a second time was just as interesting! I didn't miss anything - I enjoyed seeing all the slides more than once!

Thank you!!! I appreciate receiving them and learning so much about the State of Washington. Also, when I saw blueberries listed as one of the main produce, I thought about your brother.

I'm glad you enjoyed reviewing the slides, Patricia Feager
You said you didn't miss a thing. Did you notice the difference in rainfall between the West and East sides of the state? It's quite dramatic, isn't it?

That is one of the big misconceptions about Washington. As I travel, when I tell people I am from Washington state, the first thing they usually say is: "Oh, it rains a lot there, doesn't it?"  "Not where I live. We have 300 days with sunshine".  😂

Good afternoon Patricia Feager thank you for summarizing the Zoom meeting. I have been invited several times, but my Tuesday and other days are so busy. I keep telling myself that one of this days, I am going to join you, I am staying optimistic, lol I am glad you posted and you had a great time.

Katina Hargrove 352-551-0308 - I totally understand! When I was actively on Professional Committees, I couldn't make the AR Zoom meetings either. Now that points are issued for attendees with assignments to write about the meeting, it will help you to read a synopsis of what the meeting was about to potentially help you in your own business.

Best wishes to you and may success always be on your side.

I have been thinking about your enthusiasm for the zoom meetings and I can tell from all these comments that they are very worthwhile!  I was wondering if you all have ever thought about doing a podcast to let people see the entire meeting and the share the content for those who cant attend the actual meeting.  Also this would be very good marketing tool to promote the Zoom class and Active Rain

John Juarez - I understand. There was a time when it was impossible for me to join in on Zoom meetings. Now, I am in a different position and will attend when I can. We all have to do what's right for us at the right time. What I do recommend is that you pay attention to the blog posts from people who do attend and will work on their assignment. You will pick up great ideas about what the meeting was all about.

Truly, I understand completely.

Oct 25, 2025 08:13 AM

Patricia Feager , what a great summary of Debe Maxwell, CRS 's presentation on her state, and also yours - on your state. I love the Zoom meetings, and always find them very informative and entertaining. I should share my sweet potatoes recipe, too, this is one of my favorite meals that I cook at home. I didn't know NC was such a big producer of sweet potatoes.
