I think so? Let me guess? What do others say? I'm assuming that is correct? All irrelevant in a court of law & reality where people are wanting to live life & grow better for it. In the world of assuming, your position is weak, seeking sympathy & involvement with some ignorance thrown in. Sound harsh? Are there exceptions? Does an assumption position have any value?
YES, NO, I DON'T KNOW
Now here is safe, honest ground to be found in. Your yes should be definitive, your no firm, & your I don't know driven by honesty/innocence. All should be offered up to the offeree with confidence, no hesitation, doubt or confusion. We are earnestly seeking something here. The approach we use puts an objective value on it.
THE ABOVE POSITION
When we take any of the previously mentioned stands or responses, we leave the doors open for further inquiry should it be sought. We also become accountable & more responsible first to ourselves and then to others. Communication Integrity
ASSUMPTIONS
If someone specifically asked you to assume, offer an opinion or an outright "what do you think", we then venture out there with no considerations or after thoughts on our way to dialog, conversation & further exchange. Perhaps a connection?

I can seek out anything & so can you!
YODA TOOK A STAND
Yoda, the guru from STAR WARS movies had a teaching statement or position similar to the assumption principals. When he asked someone to do something & they replied with hesitation or I will try, he rebuked them! DO or DON'T DO there is no try. Assumptions have a similar flavor. Do you know or not know period!
EXCEPTIONS TO THE PREMISE
When exploring the unknowns, the mysteries & the newness, one may have to assume here or there but only to get to what things are or are not. Occam's razor makes the point stating, in effect, that when there are two possible answers, the simplest one is usually the correct one. It's an assumption seeking best truths
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP SOMEONE
Assume nothing but instead inquire so as to get a better understanding. Watch out also for judgements or condemnations formed by you & your beliefs too. The highest & best help given can take relevant forms as follows:
1. Help people to see what they cannot or don't want to, called self-evidency
2. Dialog with Q & A that leads to their AHA or gives them some temporary closure
3. Just listen as they speak bouncing off their ideas that may lead them to a gain
WHEN ASKED FOR AN OPINION
This can get dicey as you are now going on record & becoming a part of their life history & indirectly the problem-answer they are pursuing. Caution too because many people cannot handle the truth. You mean well, but you can make it worse
WHEN ASKED FOR A PROFESSIONAL OPINION
Many people hesitate here too with exceptions. You see we either know or don't, but someone is asking us to profess or state professionally, a point of view. I offer with humility my assessment when called upon. I guarantee nothing, but I do care
ASSUMPTIONS ARE A SHORTCUT
In a microwave society where everyone wants something right now, where attentions spans are weak, & where any answer will do to clear away thoughts, ASS-U-ME kicks in (assume) visits. Why be an ass? Why risk being known for one?
LET'S FIND OUT TOGETHER
Often, I find people, places or things of interest wherever I go. When they summon me into their worlds, I remain open, inquisitive plus objective so as to make a home for whatever may come my way. To be involved in the discovery of anything process is satisfying & rewarding especially when instigated by other dynamics or people. A venture can turn into an adventure when you involve
VENTURE DEFINED: an undertaking of uncertainty or out come with risk
ADVENTURE DEFINED: Exciting & unknown of going forth with zest & best self
Is it going to rain today? Is this a good place to eat? I wonder what "that" is all about or what's going on etc. etc. all leave me with a sense of wonder, minor curiosity & perhaps new growth? Let it be so but NOT assumed so
