Motivational Monday…A Squirrel’s Lesson

Our favorite place for Sunday morning walks is Meyer Park.  There are often multiple games on any one of its 26 soccer fields. If we’re lucky, we are in time to hear the church carillon or see the small Tai Chi group that meets under a pavilion.

However, Larry and I admit that our primary reason for choosing this park is the squirrels. There are grey and red squirrels…some relatively tame, others, still learning who we are.

Have you ever noticed how a squirrel will take his peanut, find a suitable tree root, and with his back against the tree, proceed to eat it?

Many times, though, the squirrel takes a peanut and scampers off to bury it. And just as quickly, he’ll return for another peanut.

After taking, burying, and returning several times, he finally takes a break and eats one of his treats.

What does this have to do with you?

You’ve heard this before…take time out from what you do to enjoy, replenish, and renew yourself.

Gather your listings, work your pipeline, hold weekend open houses, and network like you mean it.

BUT…make sure you take the time to enjoy what you’ve done…to refresh yourself…and to enjoy time with your family and friends.

Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.

The park you describe sounds wonderful on a few different accounts, so I can see why you and Larry enjoy it so much!

Good morning, Kathy... I'll be the first to admit that I do not take enough time off to refresh. That's why I'll be retiring sooner rather than later and will have all the time in the world to refresh.

Hello Kathy - while time may seem to fly by far too fast, your message to pause is a good reminder.  The possibilities of refreshing in addition to moments of relaxation as well as recreation are abundant.

Good morning Kathy. When I learned the lesson that recharging the batteries was the most effective way of being the most productive, things got easier. And as age sets in recharging becomes more important and necessary more often. Enjoy your day.

Good morning Kathy,

Stopping to smell the roses is so important! Time with family and friends is making memories....before you know it time has flown by and you might miss those connections if you don't stop and make the time.

Such a lovely reminder tucked into a squirrel’s routine, Kathy Streib 🍂. Your post gave me pause in the best way. Thank you for sharing something so simple yet quietly profound. It’s a gift to read words that nudge us back toward balance 💛.

Kathy, my kitties just love watching the squirrels, and they even know when I call them.   THERE IS A SQUIRREL.... they both come running!

Kathy I have never seen a squirrel in person take a peanut from someone's hand.

Kathy Streib Squirrels are the cutest animals, although many find them annoying, I enjoy them. George Souto When they are hungry, they are eager to take food. I can call them and they will come to me. It is fun to watch, but they can become overanxious. Kathy I love your analogy
