Leveling up (again). What growth looks like after two decades.

By
Real Estate Agent with Thompson Company, REALTORS® 240.593.2860 MD594797

After 21 years in Real Estate (I reached that milestone on October 20th!), I still believe in showing up with curiosity. This month, I leveled up (again) and earned my GRI® (Graduate, REALTOR® Institute) designation. It's a comprehensive program that covers contracts, compliance, marketing, technology, legislative updates, agency, and ethics. It's designed for agents who want to go deeper and hone their craft. It's been on my list for a while, but it requires a time commitment that I had to plan and make room for.

My business is built on a foundation of knowledge, experience, and a deep respect for the people and homes I represent, as well as for my profession. Along the way, I've earned the ABR® (Accredited Buyer's Rep) and CIPS® (Certified Int'l Property Specialist) designations, and the AHWD (At Home With Diversity) and SFR (Short Sale & Foreclosure Resource) certifications. I am also a home stager, fluent in German, and I earned a Master's degree in Media & Mass Communication and English; a background that shaped how I communicate, listen, and advocate for my clients.

From Silver Spring to Ellicott City (and beyond), I work with buyers and sellers, especially those drawn to homes with character or a story. Every home deserves thoughtful representation, and every client deserves an agent who's committed to the process and to achieving the best results.

The GRI® was a natural next step, but not the last one. My only regret, not pursuing it sooner. It deepened my understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks that guide our industry and refined the tools I use every day. Real Estate doesn't stand still. Neither do I.

And, yes, even after over two decades as an actively licensed and producing Maryland Realtor®, I still believe in continuing education. I am still committed to learning, improving, and showing up with the same level of curiosity and care I've always believed my work and my clients deserve.

If you are looking for a Maryland Realtor® who brings experience, insights, and continued growth to every transaction, please contact me on my cell: 240.593.2860, or email me at andreabedard.re@gmail.com. I'd be honored to help.

Good morning, Andrea... congratulations on earning your GRI. I've been a GRI since 1999 and to this day I believe that was some of the best course work I took as a real estate agent. GRI taught me everything I should have learned in "real estate school" for licensing, which is not taught there.

Thank you, Nina Hollander, Broker! I agree, the GRI was among the best coursework I've taken (besides the CIPS, loved that one, too!). My only regret is not taking it sooner! But with the amount of time involved, it wasn't something I could commit to when my kids were little. I'll keep going until the next big milestone :)

Congratulations Andrea!  Continuing education is so important! I enjoyed the GRI courses albeit that was eons ago.  Have you considered becoming a RE instructor?  With your extensive background I think you'd be really good at sharing your knowledge with other agents. I loved teaching and it also gave me other avenues to learn more in the process.  Just a thought....😊

Thank you, Anna "Banana" Kruchten! I found myself sharing quite a bit in the GRI class (and outside), and have thought about how much I would enjoy teaching. But I haven't looked into it and don't know how to get started. I appreciate it 😊

Talk to a few of your instructors or your broker can shed some light on it. I'm sure you need to take a few more courses etc but it's worth it as you WELL know!
