The Haunted Listing That Wouldn't Sell

Don't be scared of a tough listing — sometimes the biggest fright hides the brightest opportunity.

Every agent has that one listing that gives them chills. You know the type — the one that lingers on the market while others fly off the shelf, the one buyers love online but vanish after the showing. For one Bend agent, it felt like the house itself was haunted.

A Spooky Reputation

Perched on a quiet, tree-lined street, the craftsman looked perfect from the curb. But once inside, visitors whispered that "something felt off." Lights flickered during showings. The air felt drafty. Doors creaked when no one was near them. Word spread quickly — the house was haunted!

Before long, even seasoned buyers hesitated to schedule tours. The seller was frustrated, the listing grew stale, and the agent began to wonder if the rumors might be true.

The Investigation

Rather than running scared, the agent decided to dig deeper. A quick inspection revealed the real culprits — an aging HVAC system, poor insulation in the attic, and a few loose electrical connections that caused the lights to flicker. Nothing supernatural, just maintenance deferred a bit too long.

With a few strategic repairs, a deep clean, and professional staging, the home was reborn. Soft lighting, warm textures, and a subtle seasonal touch replaced the chilly vibe with cozy fall charm.

The Resurrection

The agent relaunched the listing with new photography, a captivating description focused on lifestyle, and an open house complete with cider and pumpkins by the door. The result? Multiple offers within the week — and a final sale above asking.

What was once known as the "haunted house" became a story of transformation, proof that the right preparation and marketing can bring any property back to life.

The Takeaway

Every home tells a story — and not all of them start with perfection. Whether it's creaky floors, dated finishes, or even neighborhood gossip, skilled agents know how to rewrite the narrative.

At Bend Premier Real Estate, we specialize in uncovering a home's hidden potential and presenting it in its best light. Because in today's market, even the most challenging listings can turn into success stories with the right strategy, staging, and storytelling.

Hello Lynnea - a certain spookiness is a part of real estate practice at times. History reminds me that my parents moved into their home in a newly built development on October 31.  My mom still lives there many years later.  Similar stories are part of some industry stories too.
