❄️ Ski Season Ready: What's New at Snow Summit & Bear Mountain This Year?
Winter is undeniably Big Bear's most famous season. With two world-class resorts—Snow Summit and Bear Mountain—Big Bear consistently delivers a stellar experience for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. As the first snows dust the peaks, anticipation builds!
For the upcoming season, both resorts have made exciting improvements, from updated terrain parks to enhanced guest experiences. Here is your preview of what’s new and what to expect when you hit the slopes at Bear Mountain Resort (Bear Mountain & Snow Summit).
The Big News: Enhanced On-Mountain Experience
The focus this year is all about efficiency, speed, and snow quality, ensuring you spend less time in line and more time on the powder.
Snowmaking System Upgrades: To secure reliable coverage even when natural snowfall is light, both resorts have invested in new, state-of-the-art snowmaking guns. This means more terrain will open faster, and the snow quality across the mountains will be more consistent.
Terrain Park Evolution (Bear Mountain): Bear Mountain, known as "The Park," continues to be a hub for freestyle progression. Expect new and re-imagined features, jibs, and jumps designed in collaboration with top park builders. The focus is on offering innovative, safer lines for both beginners and seasoned pros.
Focus on the Core at Snow Summit: Snow Summit continues to cater wonderfully to intermediates and families. Look for improvements to key mid-mountain runs, including grading and maintenance, to provide the smoothest possible ride on high-traffic areas.
Getting on the Mountain: Tickets & Technology
The move toward digital passes and pre-booking is now standard for the industry, and Big Bear is no exception.
| Aspect | The Current Best Practice |
| Tickets/Passes | Buy Online & Early! Day tickets sell out, especially on weekends and holidays. Pre-purchase is essential, as window prices are the highest (if tickets are even available). |
| Ikon Pass | Both resorts are part of the Ikon Pass family. If you hold an Ikon Pass, check your specific tier for blackout dates and reserved days before your visit. |
| Rentals & Lessons | Book Ahead! Lessons, especially for children, and equipment rentals should be secured online well in advance to guarantee availability and expedite your start time. |
| Parking | Reservations Required on Peak Days: Parking at both resorts often requires a pre-booked reservation during busy weekends and holidays. Check the resort website before leaving your cabin! |
Best for Beginners: Start Strong
Snow Summit: Generally offers the best start for first-timers. The Summit Learning Center is a dedicated area for lessons, and the gentle lower slopes (like the Magic Carpet area) provide a comfortable entry point before moving up to chairlifts.
Newer Skier Tip: Utilize the Chair 4 area at Snow Summit, which accesses a mix of easy and intermediate runs, allowing you to practice turns with less pressure than the main face of the mountain.
Where to Refuel: New and Notable Dining
A long day on the mountain demands a good meal and a warm drink.
Skyline Taphouse (Snow Summit): Perched at the top of the mountain, the Taphouse is the go-to spot for incredible views, craft beers, and BBQ favorites. It's the perfect mid-day break or end-of-day toast.
The Boneyard (Bear Mountain): Located at the base of Bear Mountain, this popular spot offers BBQ, drinks, and a large patio for watching the park action while you recharge.
Whether you're hitting the terrain parks at Bear or cruising the wide-open runs at Summit, Big Bear is poised for another fantastic winter. We’ll see you on the slopes
