The "Carver" in the family

As some of you may know... my Donald is a fantastic pumpkin carver.  I guess I never really thought about it until this year when I snapped of photo of him in his craft... that his mom's maiden name was indeed "Carver".  But this year my daughter sent a "template" via text that she made in chat gpt for Coop's pumpkin and I sent a photo of my Donald .... aka "Papa" in the act and said "too late" because he was already working on it.  And the details.... he made the time on the clock 4:06.  Why? you ask.  Well because Coop's birthday is 04/06.

MJ who had a police car last year wanted a police shield this year.  He's all about "I'm going to be a policeman when I grow up" Of course he also says he's going to be a truck driver, and recently when asked on stage at an event his answer to "what do you want to be when you grow up?" was "Everything". I know he'll change his mind about a hundred times between now and when he is actually grown up, he's only 4 after all.

My mom loves owls, so this year she got the owl pumpkin and I did a thing this year and bought her a craft pumpkin so this owl one will last forever... well maybe not forever, but for a few years anyway. I think it turned out great.  And I bought battery operated "candles" this year so keep the insides from getting all yucky and it was perfect for this craft pumpkin that probably would catch on fire with a real candle.

The craft pumpkin didn't come with "instructions" so it was carved with an x-acto knife vs the usual carving a pumpkin tools he uses, the walls are much thinner than a real pumpkin--- at least the ones my Donald buys... he goes for BIG every single year.

I love cats and I wanted a cat.  That one spends the day at my office.  I take it home for overnight.  My Donald always wants a scary one, so the scary jack-o-lantern is his for himself masterpiece.  It's a favorite holiday for my husband because his mom loved it so much.  I just wanted to show his work off this year. There were real candles in these two when I snapped his photo.  But I'm really proud of his work and the grandsons just love they get to custom order their pumpkins from Papa every year. Maybe next year I will write a "through the Halloween years" post and show off a lot more of what he's done.  He actually when I twisted his arm one wrote a post a long long time ago about his frankenstein pumpkin.... check out the castle shadow on the wall when it was lit that was carved into the back of the pumpkin.

Tammy- I am in awe of your Donald's carving skill. When I carved pumpkins, I did the standard triangle eyes and crooked mouth. I hope you'll put together a through the years post of his pumpkins.

Tammy Lankford,

Will have to do that.  Cooper has had some great pumpkins.  MJ too, but Cooper had a collection one year before MJ was born.

Curving is fun but can be challenging   if the pumpkin's skin is hard. I heard to make it easier you can microwave it  or bake it for few minutes~ have you tried?

Tammy Lankford,

No, we feed them to the deer, so we keep them raw.  Last year my mom also kept hers for pumpkin pies at thanksgiving (cooking it and freezing it November 1st)

Hello Tammy - is it coincidence or a combination of other creative concepts that makes some things possible?  However, it occurred there is much in this post to consume and it's quite the treat to read.

Wow, Don Baker did all of those?  He is indeed quite talented!  I don't think I have ever carved a pumpkin myself, haha.

Oh wow, wow, wow, Tammy! I'm beyond stunned by Donald's talent and creativity. I, for one, would love to see a post of carved pumpkins through the years next year.

Tammy Lankford,

Maybe I will do it this week.  I have at least 7 years of photos on my phone.

Good morning Tammy. When TV gets boring we turn to the Food Network as an alternative. This year around Halloween pumpkin carvers were featured and their creative talents could take your breath away. Kudos to Donald for his talent. Enjoy his carvings.

Tammy Lankford,

We watch a lot of food network too, but this year I was really busy with the grands so I missed the Halloween baking/carving contest.

Tammy Lankford, - Halloween has to be fun every year for you, your Donald and family! Isn't that something, that his mom's maiden name was Carver! I loved how Donald carved the pumpkins. Don Baker is super talented! I'll bet, if he set up a booth at the Farmer's Market, he'd be busy selling lots of pumpkins! Kids would LOVE to have them! The proceeds could even go toward charity or for the Police Force.

Don must have a steady hand and eyes with attention to details! I love how proud you are of him in so many different ways. Tammy, you're a lucky woman!

He keeps saying he's "retiring" from carving.  I wish I could have gotten more of the craft pumpkins this year so he can make some more that will last forever.  I'd love the boys to have several that they can use into adulthood when they have children that their "papa" carved for them as kids.  But he definitely would need to do them on the craft pumpkins through out the year to sell them.  The 5 he did in three days this year did a number on his hands.
