Journaling for November 4, 2025

Check out the blue sky in Texas! Doesn't it just sweep you off your feet! Get ready for the Super bright Beaver Moon on the evening of November 4 and November 5. It will be the brightest moon this year.

November 11 is Veteran's Day. I was surprised to receive notification from the VFW Auxiliary Department of Texas that a book was published and my interview with a representative at the VA about a story I shared on 2/6/24 was selected to be printed for publication in 2025.

Between now and November 11, it is a good time to find ways to honor the veterans for their sacrifices, courage and dedication to serve. Let us never forget how young soldiers were when they volunteered or were drafted. Most of them weren't even old enough to vote and many did not own cars.

Now that the days are getting shorter and darker, you might want to consider buying some flowers to brighten your life indoors. Fresh flowers can improve your state of well-being by boosting happiness and promoting a sense of calm.

Halloween may be over, but you can still find ways to be clever. I'm not a crafty susie homemaker. But I do take pictures of interesting things I see. Like the green witch pumpkin. Thanksgiving is right around the corner. Stay away from the holiday blues - be happy! Growing indoor Aloe Vera plants may be interesting. I'm thinking about getting more into the holistic approach to stay healthy. Do you have any ideas?

In preparation for colder weather and winter, I'm experimenting with comfort food - homemade soup. The first one I tried making a thick and creamy tomato basil soup with lots of cherry tomatoes, one beefy tomato, one big, sweet onion, and four grilled red peppers cleaned and cut. Then I topped it with sour cream and cilantro. The second time I just made tomato soup with big and small tomatoes, onions, oregano, parsley, and Italian herbs and spices. Next, I topped it off with sour cream and green onions. Now that grocery bills are so expensive and the food isn't all that great, I decide it's time for the old pendulum to swing back to the basics when all I did was make homemade food. I'm thinking it's about time I figure out how to make Irish Soda Bread! Sorry folks, I don't have recipes for my soup. My kitchen is my experimental laboratory. I only add ingredients I like. I'll definitely have to find a recipe for the Irish Soda Bread. Cheers to good health!!!

I was sitting in class on Halloween afternoon waiting for the Professor to start teaching. The bottles of Hemlock Arsenic and Lover's Tears was in front of me. Yep! It's time to make my own food and not take chances with packaged food. Just about every day there are spooky stories about recalls and poisoned food. I'm not taking any chances. There has to be more common-sense ways to get through high inflation by finding new strategies or solutions to buying food from the grocery stores. I am rethinking old convenient habits and swinging that pendulum back to good old fashioned homemade cooking. How about you?

Cooking your own food is way more healthy than eating processed food or fast food for sure! And less expensive too!  Cook at home and you have more money for those fresh flowers!!

I caught a glimpse of the Grand Moon tonight! Even thru the clouds it looked massive. I do hope I get a clear shot at it!! I am counting on you Patricia Feager to show me how it shines in Texas!!

Absolutely! I ate out much more before Covid. Yesterday I cooked enough and froze food for the next few weeks. I'm having shoulder surgery in a few hours. Prep work and precooking will make life easier, for sure.

Debra Leisek - We are in charge of what we put into our bodies. I have little faith in restaurant food anymore. Fresh flowers are a good appetizer to start and end my day.

Wasn't the moon bright last night? I thought my front door was open because of the amount of light coming indoors! It was just the moon. I think I'll have a good chance to see the brightest full moon tonight. And when I do, I'll be thinking of you!

Hi Dee Toohey - I hope your shoulder surgery went well and recovery too. Being incapacitated without using our body parts after surgery is very hard. May you heal quickly. I hope you have good support to help you out when you need it during this time.

Good morning, Patricia... when it comes to cooking, I'm not changing anything right now. The demands on my time between work and an partially invalided husband don't leave time to shop and experiment in the kitchen. Congratulations on having your interview featured. That is quite the honor.

Dear friend - Nina Hollander, Broker

What started out like a simple snowball type of surgery turned into an avalanche for you and your husband. And then you had two recent surgeries on yourself! I wish I were there to help support you. You're a combination of the timeless Timex Watch and the Pink Energizer Bunny - you keep going. It can't be easy.

May your body and spirit be refreshed with miracles.

Patricia Feager thank you so much, Patricia, for the lovely thoughts. I can tell you that this energizer bunny has less energy all the time. My age is catching up with me in this regard.

We bought Halloween candy to hand out at the Christmas Parade.  It was reduced.  I love moving things from one holiday to another.

Gwen Fowler SC Lakes & Mountains 864-710-4518  - there seems to be renewed joy when you have a reason for every season to share joy and happiness. Stay sweet, like candy and others will be happier too!

Yes to eating home cooked food! And your homemade soup sounds scrumptious - the hubby isn't a fan of tomato soup so I don't make it but your ingredients sounded perfect.

As for aloe vera - yes, grow plants! I have two huge ones and have had to use the aloe from time to time and it's an amazing product!

Hi Kat Palmiotti - To make a marriage a happy one you need to have a lot of love and a willingness to compromise - without neglecting yourself!

I did not have luck with aloe vera plants in cold, cold Illinois. I haven't tried one in Texas. It's time!!! I'll let you know how it goes.

Good morning Patricia. As we approach Veteran's Day, my thoughts are about a generation of men who fought for our freedom too young to vote. As part of the next generation my thoughts are to a high school friend, who at 16 joined the Marines during the Viet Nam War. Too young to vote but rayed to fight. He has a permanent place in my heart. Enjoy your day.

Wayne Martin - I understand. A memory like yours doesn't go away and vanish. He was a good friend and will never be forgotten. I often think about a poster my spouse hung up in the garage: Only the young die young. Although people like you and me live on, there are pieces of others that continue to die in us too.

Patricia one the weekend in BananaTUDES many people share their recipes. I for one have been a home chef for years and don't like processed foods at all.  I enjoy making home made soups, in fact shared one recently - Mediterranean soup  - doesn't get any healthier than that!  And I'm all in for fresh flowers in the house all year long! 🌺

Hi Anna "Banana" Kruchten - I quit processed food, fast food, and snacks long ago when I was a stay-at-home mom. I never craved them, and my kids didn't either. I love a good bowl of soup. We must take care of our own bodies. My diet consists of fruits, grains, and vegetables. Occasionality, I eat white chicken breast or turkey, but not often.  I still have a lot of work to do to get to the weight I was in my young adulthood. As for flowers, there are no calories!!!
