Tuesday Talk with Coach Robb Taylor: How Auburn Adapted Athletics Inspires Our Homes & Community

If you’re exploring Auburn real estate or looking into Auburn homes for sale around campus, your decision is about more than just property — it’s about community, purpose, and connection. I recently attended Tuesday Talk with Robb Taylor, Athletic Director of Auburn Adapted Athletics at Auburn University, and came away inspired — and convinced that this kind of local story matters when you’re thinking about relocating to Auburn or exploring Opelika real estate.

A Coach with Purpose

Coach Taylor arrived at Auburn in March 2016 and has been deeply involved in wheelchair basketball since 1999. Auburn Wheelchair Basketball+1 His career spans the University of Illinois, Phoenix, Chicago, and ultimately back home to Auburn. In that time he’s helped build a team that embodies what makes this region special: resilience, community, pride.

During our session, I heard about how the Adapted Athletics program is growing — from a handful of athletes to a full roster, from a single court to national tournaments — with Coach Taylor leading the way.  And as I looked through the photos and screenshots I captured, I realized this is exactly the kind of dynamic worth linking to when we talk about life in Auburn University-area neighborhoods.

Why This Matters for Home Buyers

When you decide to move to Auburn or explore Opelika real estate, you aren’t just buying a home — you’re investing in a community. Here’s how Coach Taylor’s story connects to that:

  • Community investment: A university that invests in inclusive athletics and student experience is signaling long-term support and vitality.

  • Neighborhood appeal: Homes near active campus life and spirited programs often benefit from higher demand, walkability, and strong resale value.

  • Lifestyle alignment: If you’re relocating for work, family, or lifestyle, you’ll appreciate how stories like this add meaning to everyday living.

Story from the Field

At Tuesday Talk, Coach Taylor shared how his daily schedule includes early morning workouts, grind sessions, and a focus on academics too, because his athletes are students first. I recalled that when I’m working with clients relocating for Auburn University roles, or families looking for Auburn homes for sale, the conversation isn’t just about square footage — it’s about what shows up around the home: support systems, active communities, meaningful programs. I said to one client couple, “Imagine your future Sunday drive past the Haley Center, knowing your neighbourhood supports purpose just like your new home will.”
