Yesterday's post was about plumbing and this one loosely ties in BUT let's take it in a slightly different direction.
Getting used to your new home.

Whether or not you moved across the country or across the hallway from one apartment to another you are now in a new place and it takes a little time to get used to it.
As a former Real Estate Broker I am going to focus on a single family home but many of the same quirks apply to a new rental unit as well.
Within minutes of arriving at your new residence with boxes of treasures you are going to wonder when they pick up the garbage at your new location. This is important! In Minot ND if trash is not in the City provided container they will not pick it up. I've seen trash sit for months and I've seen home owners fined (heavely) for not using the City approved containers.
Getting used to a new home often means getting used to a new community. The best way to acclimate yourself with City ordinances is to stop by City Hall and ask for help.
A good way to get acquainted with your new home is to re-review the Seller's Property Condition Statement. You got one! If you lost it contact your the Real Estate agent who helped you buy the home and ask them to give you a new one. It's not a bad idea to check and see if they mentioned the sink that never stops dripping or the non-functional ceiling fan.
My next step would be to visit with your immediate neighbors and ask them if they are aware of any peculiar things like why that water faucet is in the middle of the back yard and why is there a 220 volt outlet on the deck.
You are bound to have a lot of questions. Up here in North Dakota people like to help... just ask them.
