Journaling for November Challenge - 11/15/2025
AR Challenge - Hosted by Lynn B. Friedman CRS Atlanta, GA 404-617-6375 . The Challenge was to share a real estate story about special people you were grateful for and how they showed their appreciation.
After moving to Texas, my neighbors were all very nice and friendly to me. One particular lady was Dionne Rashad. She lived on the same street as me. Just about every day I drove down the street, if she happened to be outside, she waved hello. I would stop my car. She would stop what she was doing and walk over to say hello and ask me how was your day? Dionne did not know I was widowed. She had no idea how much four little words, "How was your day," meant to me.
When I moved to Flower Mound in 1998, Dionne, my neighbor did not know where I worked, or what type of career I had. We had other conversations about planting flowers and plants, the weather, how school and sports were going for her boys, etc. She would ask, "How was your day? Then, I always asked how she was doing. My neighbor was always upbeat, positive, and a neighbor who cared.
By the spring of 2002 Dionne noticed I had a magnetic sign on my vehicle with my picture and contact information because it was a marketing tool announcing I was a REALTOR®. She became very interested in the market. As usual, she continued to begin converations with, "How was your day?" And soon, the conversations about real estate became deeper and more frequent. Over the years we built a strong neighborly relationship. She wasn't interested in my personal life. She was interested in learning about the real estate market. But most important, she was always there to smile, wave, and greet me whenever I passed her house to get to my own home.
All the neighbors were friendly, but Dionne was especially interested in how my day was. She was always energetic, happy, never without a smile, and very caring. For years, she asked questions about the market, and I always took the time to answer questions she asked. When it came property tax time, we talked and I helped her to protest her taxes. I knew she was not going to move, until her oldest boy graduated High School and they were ready to move. Respectfuly, I never asked her if she was ready to move.
The day finally came. It was the first time; I was invited inside. Her home was beautiful. Dionne was meticulous about how she kept her curb appeal. I did not know how well kept she maintained her house inside. She had many new updates and home improvements. Pride of ownership was obvious throughout. This time, they were ready to move on. Dionne and her husband wanted me to list their home. I got to know the boys and her family very well. They were about to purchase their second home in Flower Mound, and decided, I was their REALTOR®. Here's the link for the first review she wrote on LinkedIN. And to make it extra special, she sent me the link on Valentine's Day! I wrote about my story here on ActiveRain and here it is again for you to read her testimonial that meant so much to me.

In the purchase of our second home, we selected Patricia to be our realtor. It
was the most amazing experience. She took the time to understand what
we were looking for in another home. Patricia takes her role with a high
level of passion, integrity and professionalism. She knew how to stage our
home. Her pictures assisted in us getting an offer in 8 days. Patricia was
phenomenal in the purchase of the new home.
If you are looking for a realtor, Patricia is the one for you. She's knowledgeable
on the DFW area. She works for the client. I mean really works for the client.
She offers great improvement ideas. When we sell our home, I am
calling Patricia again.

Their house sold without issues. I represented them in their second home; then a few years later, I listed and sold that one; and worked with a Highland Homes Builder for their third home. It was an exciting process for her because all of three homes were treasures. She had plans for her future and dreams that came to fruition. Dionne is a lovely lady. I was the lucky one because she never failed to ask, "How was your day?" And that made all the difference. Building relationships matters. Always and forever, I remain grateful for having the privilege of becoming a friend who I was happy to support and assist her to achieve her dreams. Her new construction (FEATURE PHOTOS) was a custom home. She so richly deserved it. Dionne wasn't just a client; she became a dear friend of mine. I will never forget her warmth and caring. My relationship with Dionne continued to build stronger over the years with her family, all because she cared and never failed to ask, "How was your day?" Whether you build a house, or a relationship, always care about the other person.
